Looking out

FB_IMG_1568676790881

Painting from a few years ago. It’s one that I did about imagination and the mind. I don’t know where it went. It may have been sold. The foreground is meant to represent axons and synapses in the brain. Thought happens, but how do you describe it? How you depict it? The eyes are supposed to be the window to the mind.

And how do we know the mind is in charge. Only a few centuries ago, the heart was seen as the centre of emotions. Hence the phrases like “letting your heart rule your head”.

I’ve done similar pictures in watercolour pencils, but they are probably in a sketchbook somewhere. I’ve got too much stuff.

Dog drawing

This is about four years old too. I think I drew it in ArtRage oils, but I don’t really remember. I like the way I managed to get a flowing, wet in wet effect. I don’t generally copy photos for my digital drawings, but I think I remember working from a picture for this? It’s either a labrador or a golden retriever? Eople who own them will be able to tell the difference.

I’m looking at old images and using a colouring in app to try and break through my current artistic block. I’m beginning to recognise this is a winter thing with me. I hope once there is a bit more bright sunlight I will rise like lazarus ( OK that’s a bit over the top!). But at least start creating again!

Watch the birdie…

These images are about four years old. Drawn in sketcher free, then altered in another app that I don’t have anymore after changing phones. I wanted to get a feeling of printing, maybe a monoprint or an etching. I like doing things in one app then playing about with it in another. That way you get more effects than using just one digital application. I want to do more with other filters. I’m thinking of downloading other art apps.

Quick drawing

Quick sketch

I’m trying sketching in an app called sketcher free, it’s interesting drawing with textured pens, but it’s not easy to control. This is drawn on a tablet, so the format of wordpress is different in it, not wordpress classic. I’m not sure this is going to work. Anyway you only learn by having a go at things, if you don’t try you never know if you can do it. I’ve found the categories tab but I can’t find the sharing tab . So at least I’m doing something , still not feeling well.

Caught a cold.. So colouring..

I hate getting colds, but it’s that time of year….

So my sister visited and showed me a website that does something similar to the adult colouring books you can buy these days.

Now I think I’m addicted! It’s certainly taking my mind off the cough I’ve developed. It does mean I’ve wasted a lot of time doing nothing. But I need a rest. I’m hoping whatever it is, it doesn’t develop into anything worse. In the meantime, back to colouring.

Panto scenery? Oh yes it is!

IMG_20200223_215357_262IMG_20200223_215222_430IMG_20200223_215120_620IMG_20200223_214914_951

Now the panto is over I can share the scenery paintings I did. The market scene was painted with the help of John who started it, (he’s one of the stage cew) and he helped me with the sky on the desert scene. The flat figure came back out of the “mangle” after the character playing a policeman crawled through it in search of Aladdin. I also added clothes to the front of the “washing machine”, the man playing a second policeman crawled into it, and after a few seconds a child climbed out, as if shrunken, but with a full sized uniform!

I had a lot of fun doing these, and I may be painting a mural in Wales now I’ve finished doing this.

Sprigs of spring?

IMG_20190807_180522_optimized

In months my garden

will be aflower,

floral fancies,

blooming anew.

But sadly now

the sight is of grey hue.

Cold sprigs of twigs

leaden coloured,

deadened stems.

Give them some sun,

some warmth

some food?

Then they will improve their mood.

I wait and cry

with many a sigh,

Looking around

For colour on the ground.

Daffodils and Tulips

Crocus and Snowdrops.

Then Bluebells and Violets,

will stir the air,

colours will flare!

Brighten the world,

set bees abuzz,

and waken my love,

of nature.

Cat plate present

DSC_2416

I’ve been given a couple of these cat plates by a friend recently. I really like them. They remind me of Victorian illustration, but the sepia toned cats are on a nice blue background. The back stamp says PrintRun.co and made in China. Microwave and dishwasher proof. That doesn’t give you much information. I could investigate further, but I don’t think I will.

There is a thing which people who live in Stoke-on-Trent do, which is to look at the backstamp on pottery and see where it was made.

So anyway sorry to be quiet, busy trying to learn lines!

Above our door

_20200220_143806

I designed this about 25 years ago. A cat resting in the window above our front door. My friend Phil Shaw who was a carpenter also knew how to make stained glass, so I drew out the pattern and he made this up for me. It’s been there ever since and I love it. When we had our house double glazed I wanted to have this incorporated into a window but they couldn’t do it, so it remains, behind the single glass window. Letting the sunlight in. Coloured patches on the carpet.
