Setting Moon

Seen a couple of nights ago, a blurry setting Moon, chasing the Sun round the sky.

You can tell what angle the Moon is to the Sun because of the angle of the curve on the sunlit side. As the Moon waxes and wanes the position of the Sun can be worked out, full Moon=the Sun is on the other side of the Earth, a sliver of Moon, the Moon is in between the Earth and the Sun. Eclipse? If the Moon Eclipses the Sun it is directly between the other two bodies. If the Moon turns bright red its the Earth getting between the Moon and Sun, its only really then that you can see the curvature of the Moons surface, whichis usually so reflective that it looks bright and flat.

I guess this is the most number of times I’ve written ‘”Moon” in a blog!

Westport lake today

I walked around Westport Lake today, the leaves are almost fully out on the trees and the birds are either on the nest or are swimming around with chicks.

The green of nature and the blue of the sky are so calming. Cheering me up, settling me down. Letting me relax. I love going there…

Finally walking again

As we arrived at Westport Lake today it started to snow. It didn’t stick, but children were running screaming as it came down thick and fast. We sat and waited in the car till it stopped. I didn’t take a photo of it because my phone was stuck in my pocket trapped between me and the car door.

Then out, a quick visit to the icecream van for a treat and round the latge lake once and the small one twice. No where near as far as I would normally do, but I managed to get enough steps and heart points in to meet my daily challenge. I’m shattered but happy!

I just watched a grand final, not sure what year, but it was a lovely landscape in Canada. Lake trees and sky. In the middle of the artists time a thunderstorm blew up. There was a wide range of styles from strongly impressionistic and expressionist, to bead work and realism. Also mixed media. I won’t say who won but I enjoyed it.

While watching #skylandscapeartistoftheyearcanada I just decided to try and sketch for ten minutes as you only get glimpses of the landscape… This was difficult but I had a go….

Moon

One moon, high above the clouds. Seen on a walk, popping up like a bubble from the lips of a cloud.

It’s hard to capture the moon on my phone. The definition of the photo is not good, and having to zoom in makes it more blurred. I think I avoided too much camera shake.

It’s not often you see the moon in the sky in daylight. But I like this photo. Simple view and with the clouds it makes it more interesting.

Trees and road markings,

black asphalt,

branches reach out and hold hands,

a pylon of arching twigs.

Shimmering blue sky,

with added silver,

dreaming of spring days.

If I look closely?

I see slitted pupils,

in great round eyes,

the hat metamorphoses

into a black beak?

Gold, black and blue,

brightly hued,

your cages of twigs,

snare birds who

nest in warm romance.

Yesterday’s #bandofsketchers drawing, walked round Shelton cemetery and the wind was blowing and datk clouds gathered. It rained heavily for a short time. Worked from a photo… Prompt was wet, and it really was. Boldmere colouring pencils.

Red sky in the morning,

Shepherds warning?

See the sky

Roses in your eye.

Now its dawn

New day is born..

Pink to blue

Purple hues too

Twigs and branches

Spring approaches.

Sun or rain

Brings green again….

Back to sleep

In bed I’ll keep

Until full sun

And sunrise is done…

I’m a member of the cloud appreciation society and I love the sky. When it is misty and the sky turns salmon pink, when there are dark storm clouds in the background and bright sunlight shines on the landscape in front of them. We see amazing lightening storms, cumulo nimbus, stratus, cirrus, mammatus, so many sorts of clouds.

I love looking up at the sky, looking at the stars and meteor showers or seeing a satellite tracking overhead. I’ve seen Jupiter and Saturn and Mars and Venus in the telescope.

The sky can keep you occupied for hours x

What sees us under the deep blue sky? Alien faces with glimmering eyes. If they open wide a nova will scorch the ground. Smoke rising and polluting the air.
