Photo experiment

Hubby did this in the 1980’s. It’s still up on the stairs. I don’t know how he did it. Is it a camera on a bench looking up to a lamp overhead and the hands interposed between the two? Or perhaps it’s a mirror on the wall with a tipped up lamp? I don’t even know if they are his hands, maybe he had someone place them in shot? It could be a bowl of water with a light reflected in it….

Do you know I’ve never asked him. Its just a dusty, fading photo. But it’s part of him, part of his idea of life, it expresses something about a younger person. Someone still in there.

Reflected sky

I love doing this, mirroring a sky in layout app so it looks like the sky has been reflected in a calm sea or lake. I should try and draw on it to attempt to make the lower part look like real water. Possibly by adding slight wavelets or sparkling reflections. This was today’s sunset as the hill being our house was silhouetted by the growing dark.

Pink sunset

We walked round the lake and saw the sky turning pink. The glow spread across the surface of the lake but didn’t develop further. Ten minutes later as we drove home, the sun peeped out from undet the clouds. I couldn’t stop but saw the sky turning dark grey in front of me and the sun reflected in my rear view mirror. I hoped to drive towards a rainbow but as the rain started to fall the sun hid itself behind the clouds again. Went howm to a hot decaff coffee and a mince pie!

Waterbird

Silhouette of a waterbird taken a couple of days ago on a walk round Westport Lake. I liked the way the small rock in the water looks like a birds head with a beak. It made me look twice because the actual birds head was looking forwards, towards me. It does give the illusion that the head is turned in profile in the reflection.

Reflected

Drawing from August 2020? my reflection and my little sketchbook in the patterned swirls of glass in the back door. So often is it that I’m holding my phone that I thought that was what the black square was when I looked at it again. Black pen and coloured pencils to get the effect of glass. I have a lot of sketches from over the period of the pandemic. I was already drawing a lot before it arrived, but I hope my skills have improved over that time.

Jupiter reflection

A painting of Jupiter I did about seven years ago. My friend had a craft centre and this was for sale at her shop. It went to a good home. I always thought the pattern I painted looked a bit like knitting!

His came up on my Facebook memories. I have done so many paintings that I often forget what I have done! This was a large acrylic on canvas. I like the way it appears to be floating in the window. X
