Rain, then more rain, followed by sunshine and showers. More rain due. Mists and drizzle. Cold showers. Heavy showers travel up the country. From south to north, west to east. Scudding across the sky. Clouds caught on a strong wind. Billowing, blousy, heavy, dark grey. Moving faster than waking pace, shadows flit across the ground. Leaving puddles of shade on the scorched pavements. Dry September has become wet September. Summer has become Autumn. Growth to decay. Age after youth.

I shared this meme three years ago on Facebook because it spoke to me. Art is so important to the world. You need art to design things, to have an idea of what clothes, cars, white goods, trains, homes, workplaces will look like. Cutting funding for the arts hits theatre, performing arts, music, computer aided design, surface pattern, and so many other services that bring income into countries. It’s not just painting and sculpture, printmaking and textiles, ceramics and surface pattern. Artists and designers help support the world. Next time you use a plate to eat off, cutlery to eat with, use a table to sit at, wear clothes that fit you and are not grey tubes of rough cloth, then remember art helps to design out world.
What part of this food is safe to eat if you are diabetic?
A large size pizza ( carbs)
Two packets of mini butter stollen cakes (dusted with icing sugar)
Four large potato’s (carbs)
Three tubs of butter
Cheese
A box of mini blueberry muffins,
Two large tubs of fruit flavoured kefir fermented yoghurt,
Two bottles of mayonnaise (garlic and chilli flavours)
Two cheesecakes (one strawberry, the other lemon and marscepone)
A packet of rich tea biscuits.
A box of eggs
Shampoo with honey added!
Why?
The only vegetables were a jar of gherkins….
I don’t normally ask him to go shopping!
Who would choose gherkins and limes for a nice choice of food for shopping?
I asked my hubby to do some shopping today. Get some bread and milk and something nice I said. Do you need a list? No I’ll be OK.
Off he went to the supermarket. Its not far away and he wasn’t going to buy much. When he came back he’d bought:
Mini butter stollen
Limes
Gherkins
A tin of tomatoes
Rich tea biscuits
Four litres of semi skimmed milk
A wholewheat loaf.
So I made him two slices of toast with a mini butter stollen on each slice (well they say butter on the packaging, and we have run out of butter).
I asked him if he wants gherkin and lime for tea? He laughed. Then ate the mini butter stollen!
A friend painted one of these and wondered what it was called. I thought it was a codswallop bottle, but looked it up and codswallop is a word for nonsense, for instance used in a phrase ‘a load of codswallop’ meaning a load of rubbish, or inaccurate, or something that isn’t true?
Then when I looked up codswallop bottle it came up with this: ‘A Codd-neck bottle is a type of bottle used for carbonated drinks. It has a closing design based on a glass marble which is held against a rubber seal, which sits within a recess in the lip. Wikipedia‘.
Thinking about it, could this be a cleaner, greener method of closing a bottle? I think it’s an interesting design. I think it’s Victorian?
The tiny green tomato was plucked off our tomato plant today. The surrounding ones are large and shop bought and the apple on the top right was a windfall off my sisters tree…
I can grow flowers, but not vegetables or fruit. I spend too much on seeds, and get plants from sales and swaps, but I don’t have good conditions to grow them in… Too much shade. Too many shrubs!
I started the previous drawing like this. It was going to be a background for something else, so the pattern is spread across the whole surface. I might recreate it on a canvas in paint. Not decided yet. I have an exhibition coming up in November and I’m thinking of creating a series of abstracts based on some of these designs.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was melody. My melody is Jazz. Subtle juxtaposition of lilting tunes and jagged zinging dischords….
I added gold leaf to add the sparks of musical energy.. I used felt pens for the background. I drew triangles around dots that had bled through from the other side of the page.
If I had to choose his name
I would call him Jupiter.
He is twice as big as the others
Strong markings
He thinks everything
Revolves around him.
He has gravity
He causes storms
He has a great spot
On his nose!
He eats passing objects
He comes out at night.
Jupiter it is!
My hubby is watching an old spaghetti western ‘the good the bad and the ugly’ and suddenly the theme music is playing, ah ah ah ahh wahh ah wah.. Wah…
Memory of a junior school dance class. Having to try and do an interpretive dance to the music. It must have been when the film came out. I remember having to do the same to music from the film ‘Oliver!’ I remember I didn’t have an interpretive bone in my body.
I’m watching a film set in a dusty desert. The music is great, but I hate the dubbing of voices on the film. I hadn’t realised it stars a young Clint Eastwood. I don’t think I’ve ever watched it before.
