Old YouTube channel

IMG_20200203_123537_optimized

Ignore the photo. I was just trying to find a simple picture to post to illustrate this.

It’s been several years since I wanted to post something to YouTube. It’s clearly changed a lot, because although I could find my old videos on my mallchris channel, I could not sort out how to post videos to it. My only option was to create a new channel there. It also made me post in my full name. Not something I would have done in the past. Some of my old videos are me singing, which is why I wanted to disguise myself! I’m not bothered any more. They are harmless.

If you want to go and have a look. Be bored by my little train videos! I’ve also got a couple of short films about some of my art….

Bye for now.

Yesterday, VE day…

_20200219_071735_optimized

In other parts of the city there have apparently been large congregations of people, playing house music late into the night to celebrate VE day. People are so badly informed and they are clearly not thinking about social distancing and their own and their families safety.

But it’s been all quiet down our street for most of the day and evening.

However the people round the back of our house had an argument earlier on. My hubby could hear them (and he’s very deaf). I was inside so didn’t hear it. I’m wondering if we should have rung the police. It’s worrying what is going on behind closed doors.

I wanted to avoid VE day. There were so many deaths, so much sadness as well as the rejoicing.

I think lockdown needs to continue. We need to take it seriously. And don’t start me on Brexit!

Green spirals

IMG_20191016_182111_854 (2) (2) (2)_optimized

I want green, spirals, like pangolin scales. Cactus or succulent, indoor beauty. I wish I could get some more plants. One of ours on the upstairs window sill has sent out a flower spike. If it doesn’t get broken by the cats I will take a photo of it.

I have lots of baby money plants, and the one outside has survived the winter. But I’d like something more exciting.

I’m tending my orchids. One regularly flowers, the middle one got a flower spike on it for about three weeks, and the last one has tiny green leaves which were hiding under a couple of dead leaves.

Then my four amaryllis plants had only one flower this winter.

I love growing greenery inside and outside the house.

Tension

sketch-1588877302067

I wake on a cliff edge.

Teetering, tottering..

Tension racks my shoulders

Stiff, creaking joints.

Sleep does not touch the tightness.

I feel like bones will break.

Mentally I’m OK,

Physically I’m OK

But my mind is tying my body in knots.

Spine fused with tension.

Like a gathering storm.

Waves waiting to break,

Teeth ground to sand.

Life fights.

Thunder clashes overhead.

Will I fall?

Will I stand.

Still.

Tulips

These were growing in our garden six years ago. The garden is more overgrown now and we didn’t put in as many tulips this year. I will have to put in more next year. Part of the problem is also the squirrels digging them up. I think they eat them in the winter.

Tulips were precious plants in centuries gone by. Some were more expensive than gold. I can remember the details, but they are beautiful plants. I’m afraid this post is a little lacking in detail. I shall try and add more to it.

Descending stats…

_20200501_152939

Oh dear, I must be a bit more interesting, my monthly stats seem to be descending… But like everyone else I’m a bit limited in where I can go. And do you really want to read about face masks and social distancing.

So what can I talk about? My hair is growing, it seems to be evolving!

It’s turned frizzy and white (not overnight, and not from fright). I did mess it up a bit on this photo!

So if you don’t mind me, I will keep posting bits and bobs here.

Student memories

_20200414_181320

Forty years ago, here are two of my friends who I shared a student house with. Unlike the accommodation today things were different then. It’s like something out of ‘the young ones’ TV series. There was no hot water, just a broken water heater. I hate to say this but there was no bathroom and we used the showers at the college. The washing machine was an old twin tub. Our cooker was gas, but there was no gas fire. Instead we just had a coal fire to warm the whole house. And the toilet was down the yard in an outhouse.

We moved on into a slightly less tumble down house, finished college, and ended up in our own house. But I actually enjoyed life in that house. X

Keeping up

_20200414_181435

A forty year old photo of a river I took when I was young.

It reminded me to calm down, try and relax, maybe ignore the news for a couple of days and get some rest.

I’ve also had to leave some of the emails I get. I can’t keep up with all the notifications of news. I want to read everyone’s posts, but I have responsibilities that I need to take care of. Even in this mad situation you still have to cope.

So anyway. I hope everyone is doing OK. It’s hard to think of people stuck in their homes. Not allowed out. In lockdown. I imagined that the world was linked and that people would feel each others pain or loneliness. But of course that isn’t true. Otherwise when people in different countries went through famine or disease we would know and help them… But sadly it doesn’t work like that.

British Summer Time

sketch-1585434829434

This time of year we change the time on our clocks by putting them forward an hour. This is known as British Summer time, or daylight saving time. It was introduced during the second World War when the idea was that farmers and workers would have an extra hour in the evening to do their work. The time changes back to Greenwich mean time in the autumn to bring us back in line with the normal time on the planet. The government did try and keep British Summer time for the whole year back in the early 1970’s because it was found there would be less road traffic accidents in the evenings when children were coming home from school, but there were complaints the sun didn’t rise in Scotland (which is in the far north of Britain) till around 10am.

As the northern spring starts there is a high pressure zone over us and air is being drawn down from the Arctic. So we are expecting cold weather in the next few days ( not that anyone is going out at the moment….).
