Woke up to a blue sky with patchy clouds. Do you look for things in the clouds? I thought I could see Yoda in this photo from a few days ago (bottom half of the photo). Strange how the mind works. I guess it’s because you have to be awake and aware as a human being. Maybe you need to see possible threats so pattern recognition is a good thing. I’ve often written about my ability to see patterns. Pareidolia is what it’s called. But yes it’s good to be awake and seeing blue skys. But we do need rain.

#bandofsketchers prompt for Sunday was underfoot. This is one of our cats. We always have to step over him when he’s eating! Quick sketch from my imagination. We do have a patterned tiled floor, although not as dark as this!

The trees sat in a thin mist rising up from the pools. Moss making the paths slippery. Branches and twigs had broken off in the winds of the night before.
What walked out of that wood was not alive. It had risen during the darkness, disturbed by the roots of the trees. It looked out through the mist and watched for anyone passing close by. It waited without thought. Without intelligence, but with quiet patience. Darkness had started to fall again when it heard the sound of steps. Steady and strong. The steps of a man walking home through the wood. Taking a shortcut. As the moon brightened the pathway a figure lurched in front of him. And then they both sank down into the pool. Together forever.

A friend reading at Etruria Industrial Museum. The orange area is the ink from the previous page showing through. I did this with a brush pen so it works slightly differently to a fine liner pen. Dark areas fill in better than with a thin pen. I might add texture in Photodirector later. It’s great to try and switch things round and explore different ideas. Practice in anything improves what you do. I’m also trying to teach myself a bit of lino cutting. More of that soon.

One of the metal sculptures / plant supports in a planter at Trentham Gardens retail Village. I like the art nouveau or is it art deco feel to these (I can never remember). They are already pretty but come high summer they will be packed with bright and cheerful flowers. Vines climbing up the sculptural sections of metal.

I wonder what a cat with wings would be like? Would they flap like a magpie or a bat? Would they chase birds in the sky, like Sparrowhawks? I can imagine them flying up to the tree tops. Nesting in the very top branches, feathering their nests? I’d be worried for the health of small mammals too, the bat cat would dive from great heights instead of simply pouncing from a short distance away. Beware genetic manipulation!

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was power. I had to read my meter and disturbed a few spiders so I drew it. Its old and I’m trying not to use much power the way prices are going up!

Sketchfu drawing. An old website that closed. I’ve left it uncropped so you can see a bit of the technique I used. The drawing space was landscape orientated so portraits left a lot of space on either side. The site used simple tools but by changing opacity you could blend colours.
