Waiting

Two years of work. The results are out tomorrow. Ups and downs. Trying to produce work that will be good enough for a decent mark. It’s been a bit of a slog, but I’m glad I did it. Time to end, time to move on to something else. I was happy with my final major project, a children’s book. Juxtaposing black and white story pages and coloured abstracts. I hope that this will introduce children to art in a different way. I’d like to get the book published. I must find out how.

I’ve published my book!

It’s here!

OK so it’s self published and it’s one copy. I want to find out if I can get it properly published. But it arrived this morning two days early. It wasn’t going to get here till Friday. The roads must have been quiet! It was like Christmas! I kissed it. I cried. I’m so happy with it! It cost way too much, but it backs up all my university work so I’m happy 😊.

Lino, cut

This is the sheet of lino that I carved out a dragon from for part of my MA final major project. I inked it up and got a reasonable result. I would like to try again and see if I can increase the complexity of the work. Its always good to learn new skills (without causing injury to myself). I don’t know if you can tell but it’s a dragon in flight. There is a girl riding it, the story is she helps it find it’s way home.

Nerves

Its almost time to submit my final major project but I’ve become very nervous about it. Such a lot rides on how I do. I’m already suffering from insomnia but this is just making it worse. I’m wondering why I can’t sleep, but I guess it’s thoughts like “have I got enough images?” “what if I forget to include?” “how do I create?” Don’t get me wrong, I have learnt a lot over the course of the last two years. I am attempting things I would never have done before. And what am I going to get out of it, apart from those new skills? Would anyone employ me as a free-lance illustrator/ author/ crafts person? Lot’s of questions. I think my style is my USP. I tend to do my own thing. I am probably too analogue. But I have a passion and I want what I am doing to be interesting. Do I have to be subsumed into a generic style? I hope not!

Book finished

Today I put childrens book together in a site called Blurb. I had saved all my files as .tif files and it needed them as .Jpegs so I spent HOURS swapping them. A lot of the jpeg files were not able to open. It meant that I had to change some of the pictures for different ones. I’ve ordered a one off copy for my course. The only problem is that it might arrive late so I’m going to have to take the photos to a printer and mock up the book as well.

Working hard

I’m trying hard to finish my final major project. Here’s a quick photo of one of my sets of pages. I can’t show too much detail as it’s a work in progress and you never know it might get published. What is the phrase? This is my copyright © and I do not allow its use without my express permission. That said I need a rest!

dragon again

I’m still working towards my final major project at college. The project is a picture book with patterned pages on one side of the two page spreads and possibly strongly contrasting images like this one on the other side. Im thinking of trying out linocutting as a method of producing them ( could get very messy) or perhaps a photoshop technique I’ve never used before? All part of ideas generation…Probably both to show that I’m trying to widen my skills. I also need to resolve where the text will sit…. I might even get it published. I think time is not dra-gon-ing on! Its going too quick!

My mouse has died!

Tool of my trade…. But its stopped working! The light has gone out. I tried changing USB ports but then the computer said the port is not recognised? WTF… Sorry to swear, but I was in the middle of creating a Dragon Zine. I’d cropped all my photos, all I have to do is click and drag them into place… I can use my stylus from my tablet, but when I tried to click with it, it just drew lines? Argh! Will anything go right? I want to print off batches of four photos then cut them to size nd glue them down. The idea was if I did them inA6 I could fit four to an A4 page and save paper…. Grrr!

Cat dragon

Why can’t a dragon be a bit like a cat? Add some wings and a longer tail for balance. I’m going to write a story for college and the main character is some style of dragon. I want it to be friendly and beautiful. I think I would add scales. Maybe this will be the final idea. I will have to think about it.
