Jigsaw clock

Argh! My hubby got a clock as a Christmas present, for age 7 and above. It didn’t really have instructions and after half an hour of looking at it he asked me to help. I managed to put the major bits together ( it’s meant to slot together). But like a furniture kit, there are a lot if bits left over. I also think it needs glueing because a lot of it is a bit loose. It’s made of balsa wood and a few bits have snapped off! It has a little pendulum, but it’s only pretend.

It does have a real electric clock inside, with proper fingers etc, so if I can wangle it together we will have a useful clock. Tick tock……

Tidying up

DSC_2411

We use a warehouse (old, small, with hardly any facilities) next to the Trent and Mersey canal for our art group. Most weeks we do art, pottery, painting, drawing etc. Thus week we had to clear out the kitcgen/store so that it can be demolished and rebuilt as a kitchen and a disabled toilet next to it. So we had to clear a lot of stuff out, including a lot of clay. This is only half of the stuff. It was quite heavy to move. I was going to take it away in my car but compromised on storing it in the building. It’s pleasing to be able to do something physical for a change.

Cats dream

Quick watercolour I did on a postcard for a blind auction for charity a few years ago. You had to submit pictures on cards so they could be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

I did a few and enjoyed doing it. Just creating off the cuff pieces. I don’t know how well they did, but I didn’t get any of them back..

Here are a few more, just quick, bright and cheerful.

Street trees

sketch-1581779452454

I have just written to my local Councillor about a stand of about eight trees that have been cut down as you approach our City centre.

I wrote:

Dear Councillor__________
I was concerned today as I was driving into _____from _____, that a whole stand of mature trees has been cut down on the corner of the ________opposite the new hotel and ____field site (on a patch of land next to the traffic lights). I have always liked those trees and am shocked that the council has removed them. There seem to be more and more of these acts of environmental vandalism. In a time when we should be planting more to mitigate the effects of climate crisis why are you implementing this? I’m sure they were not all diseased. Please consider replacing any trees on a two for one basis. Street trees are recognised as a way of cleaning urban pollution. It has recently been reported that thousands of people die every year from pollution. And as the most congested city in the world last month it should be important to your administration to mitigate these problems.
Yours Sincerely

Saggy and baggy

FB_IMG_1582248633952

No one tells you as you lose weight how saggy and baggy you can get, the weight goes but your skin doesn’t shrink overnight. I have lost a lot over the last three years and now I feel like a half empty balloon! I’m flabby and I need to shrink!

I get into my clothes and everything seems to distribute evenly, but there are bulges I don’t like. Maybe I should get a corset? That’s what my mum and grandmother wore. Does anyone remember liberty bodices? I had to wear one when I was young. Thicker than a vest with clips for stockings, I think it was to get girls used to corsets. Luckily I grew out of it and got vests instead.

I know why I’m not ‘ toned,’ because my job was too sedentary, and being an artist I still do a lot of sitting down. I need more exercise.

Sleeping, nodding off….

sketch-1548028972485_optimized

I am so tired, I have had a bad cold, and I keep falling asleep now. Dozing, sleeping, nodding. Too tired to keep my eyes open. I wish I was fit and well. OK its not serious, but I’m not doing things I want to do. I want my spring back in my step. My mojo back, my twinkle back in my eye! So I will try and sleep earlier, get some shut eye, keep warm and comfortable. Sorry to moan. I’m fed up, I’m sorry. Might write a bit more later. X

Floral

I don’t remember when I created this. I know from looking at it it’s been manipulated in layout. I probably used an old app called kaleidoscope but I don’t have that any more. There appear to be eyes looking out, and some spikey bits? What are they? I think I took a photo of some sort of cactus.

Anyway I still enjoy looking at the image so I’ve shared it.

World

_20200303_224853what would happen if the Earth was tipped up on its axis?

The world would spin so the equator was spinning at nintey degrees or so to where it is now. Every twenty four hours it would still spin West to East as it does now, but the Sun would not rise and set every day. I think it would only do that when the Earth was mid way between when either pole faced the Sun. Because the Earth rotates round the Sun. So the North or North East or North West would face the Sun for half  of the year and the South, South East and South West for the other half.

So what would happen to the poles? Even now, because the Earth is tipped at an angle and doesn’t rotate vertically, we get summers and winters. So there  twenty four hour days in the polar summer, and twenty four hour nights in polar winter. If the Earth was tipped over more the twenty four hour days and nights would last for months. The side away from the Sun would be colder, the side towards it would be hotter. Perhaps all the ice would melt at one pole and freeze much more at the other? Who knows? I’m sure scientists would have the answer. Thankfully we don’t face that question. Sadly we do face climate crisis. We need to sort out the current situation. How? I don’t know the answer to that. But perhaps we should follow what teachers put on school reports. We must try harder?!
