Hooked on a tree
In the shade,
With no way of knowing
What time it is?
Weird place to be
Up in a tree.
Did it climb up
Like the kitty
It depicts?
Need to be rescued,
Bought down to the ground.
Into the sunlight?
Yes definitely!
New paintings and regular art updates.

My friends and I set out late this evening for our weekly walk. We’ve been walking up my steep hill every week for a few weeks, but tonight it was not to be. We’d got about 20 yards when splat! Big drops of rain. Lots of big drops. At least there was no thunder, no lightening. Just rain!
So… We could see bright pink clouds over the brow of the hill so we decided to drive in seperate cars over the hill to the local viewpoint. I was hoping to se a lovely sunset, but no, by the time we stopped the rain was falling fiercely there as well.
Plan C, we went into a local bar for a cool drink. By this time one of my friends had found a plastic bag to put over her head.
As we entered we had our temperature checked. I was still wearing a mask and because the bar was quiet felt reasonably happy removing it.
But it’s baby steps. I’m nervous of mingling with people I don’t know. It’s not something I will do without some trepidation.

I’ve put 13.7.20, but it was actually 13.8.20, thirteenth of August. The prompt today was shadows, this is the view of the plants and buildings in the background from our side window. There may not be many more prompts because we have to come up with them ourselves, I wonder what we could come up with…..
I decided afterwards to add some dark watercolour to it, but then decided to add a few colours too.

I also changed the date on it. Its still shaded. I think it looks quite nice.

Autumn Acers, painting from when I visited Jodrell bank a few years ago. I was just browsing my photos and thought how nice it would be to sit in their dappled shade this morning. Its already about 27 Celsius inside the house this morning, and hotter still outside . I’m up early to do some college work, but the heat is getting to me. The humidity is the worst thing. We had torrential rain along with another massive thunderstorm last night and more is forecast for today. Luckily I live on a hill, but i thought my car would get washed away last night because the water cascading down the hill started to look like a river. I would not be surprised if properties further down on the flat main road got flooded! So, yes, dappled shade in the garden is what I might be seeking a bit later on when I have a break. I’ll be back later.

Good, I seem to be back to the old fashioned WordPress. I just tried posting on my tablet and everything looked completely different! I think I was in ‘blocks’! Now I have a post you can only see half of, basically this little drawing of a little goose isn’t even showing up unless you press a button to show more. Why? Grrr! I’ve been using WordPress for a couple of years now and I thought I’d got it sussed.
Ah well, sorry to moan.
Something has happened to my word press. I want the old version back please?

Oh well, I guess it was the storm, but my second keyboard I bought a few weeks ago has died. The computer shop said take it in and they will test it. In the meantime I’ve bought a slightly better, more comfortable one. Cost twice as much but hey.
Then I had a message that drivers were out of date, so now I’m updating them. I don’t know if I’ve got the will to tye anything today (coursework that is)….
I’m hoping it will be OK soon. Just got a message from Microsoft trying to sell me premium services… Nah…

The sun beating down on Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent today. Terraced houses lined up near the canal. This is the Cauldon canal that heads towards Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands where it eventually joins with the river Churnet. The houses are lower down than the canal so there is a big retaining wall made of stone that prevents the water escaping from it. You can see the wall as it lifts up into a bridge over the canal on the left hand side. The street slopes away down towards the Trent and Mersey canal which is joined to the Cauldon canal by a series of locks. The Trent and Mersey is in the valley and runs close to the Trent River (which is really only a small river running through the city). The Trent eventually runs to the sea at Hull after passing east through Nottingham I think.
So these terraces are connected by water to many places. You might see them if you ever travel the canals.

We went out to meet the art group this morning, but after half an hour in the hot sun on our own we went up to the local cafe. We both ordered full English breakfasts (you get a choice of ingredients, I had egg, tomato, hash browns, bacon, sausage, black pudding and mushrooms. That came with toast. We both had coffee and I had an orange juice. Not the healthiest food I know, but on the odd occasion its delicious (apologies to vegetarian friends). I appreciated not having to cook in this heat. After the meal we went and waited for our friends again but they never arrived. So we came home.

It was so hot today after we had been out to meet some friends (who didn’t turn up) that when we got in and sat down I was too hot and tired to switch the fan on. Its on now and when I cool down a bit more I will get the bottle of frozen water I have in the freezer and put it in front of the fan.
It’s about 30°C and I’m hot, even my toes are sweating! Very humid, more thunderstorms due this evening….
For now I’m trying to chill, relax, and rehydrate. My skin is a bit burnt, August!
