F. R. O. G. Plane

FROG stands for ‘flies right of the ground’ this plane was just on the TV. The body was aluminium and the wings and tail were made of paper.

This was made in the 1930’s? You put the body of the plane in the box with the propellar attached. There is a handle on the front of the box and a mechanism that holds the propellar. You turn the handle and it winds up a rubber band. Then you peg the wings and tail on and let it loose to fly up off the ground.

Our forebears may not have had the Internet but they knew how to have fun!

Helium balloon…

What to do with this? It’s gradually deflating, the balloon gets more crinkled every day. I cut the ribbon off and it drifted back upwards again.in

The balloon is about a month old, it was part of my birthday celebrations. My first thought was to burst it, but I’ve watched its behaviour as its gradually deflated. This morning it was floating just above the floor. The ribbon, which must have weighed only a gram or two, was enough to weigh it down.

Now? It’s floated upstairs, it’s in the room I use for making art. When it’s fully deflated I shall use it for collage rather than throwing it away to go to landfill… It will be recycled.

Ariel

Received from space? Old photo mirrored. The original photo was about a stormy sky but the effect of mirroring this has bought the attention to the (seemingly) floating TV Ariel.

What is it for? Is it an alien Ariel? A communication from beyond the stratosphere? An energy collector or scrambler of radio waves? Something from a Sci-fi movie. Could it tune in to the high pitched sounds of bats? Imagination can take you anywhere!

In the canal

On our five mile walk today, saw this young bullock paddling in the canal! It proves how shallow it is. The temperature was up around 28°C and it was lucky that most of the walk was shaded by trees and hedges. We stopped off at the plume of feathers pub where we had booked a table and had a bite to eat. I was more interested in a cold drink.

I’m shattered but I really enjoyed it. I’m just a bit sunburnt now!

Purrs

He is a bit of a nervous cat but when he’s in a good mood he purrs really loudly. He puts a paw out and touches my hand or arm. He will rest his head on my hand now, and then he starts to snore!

I appreciate his love and I think he appreciates ours. We are lucky to have built a friendship with this cat which was abandoned by his previous owners a few years ago. I hope he stays with us for a long time.
