Seaside colours

Just drawing in these colours gives me memories of sunny days at the seaside. If the colours were greys and turq, with some white added I would think of wild stormy days.

I remember a seaside holiday in the summer that was very grey and wet. The rain started as we arrived and took a taxi from the station to the chalet we were staying in. I was about eleven and I remember staring out of single glazed windows down a steep hill. I can’t remember a beach? I do remember mom having to put coins in a box on the back of a TV so we could watch it.w

Eventually the weather cleared up m I remember a harbour with lots of sailing boats. I think we went mackerel fishing but all my family got seasick except for me. The fishing lines kept catching fish and I pulled them in. When we got back the fisherman tried to give mom all the old fish but she insisted we got the ones I had caught. I don’t know what happened to them.

I also remember a hovercraft trip on a very choppy sea and eating egg and chips in a rough cafe. Funny what comes back when you see an image..

Can you see a dragon?

Messing about with plastic dots glued down, then worked on it in layout app (a mirroring app) and then photodirector to change the texture and twist the perspective. Back to layout to mirror the result. Different colours and patterns seemed to create a horned dragon at the centre. I can see his nose and eyes, although part of his face appears hidden…. Having fun…

Spinning Top

Not feeling on top of the world today so just did a sketch from memory. Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Top. I tried to remember what a toy top looks like. I did a sketch with a black ink fine line pen. This is from memory. I can see a bright top spinning in my mind. The top had some holes in so as it span it had a rising and then descending musical tone. Edited in Photodirector to give a slightly abstract effect.

dragon stone

A few weeks ago I got a stone painting kit. I used to paint them a lot. I’ve painted little mice, and hedgehogs and other creatures on stones, so I know what I’m doing.

This dragon stone didn’t turn out as well. It’s a bit too blobby, it lacks definition. you can just about work out what it is but I think I have overworked it. It is meant to be a curled up dragon which has fallen asleep on a red cushion. I think it must be a tiny species of dragon, only about four inches long. You can have small lizards so why not small dragons? I think they live in the cracks in stone walls. They eat lichen and set fire to tiny sticks and grasses if they want to get warm. I wonder if I could turn this into a story? Pixies using them as transport, or for flying after honeybees to raid their hives? Imagination is a mad thing….

Colours

Artrage oils sketch. Using orange, yellow, green and purple to make it pop. Because the colours smudge when you overlap them, it’s hard not to mix them up. Eventually I ended up with this abstract pattern.

Finally I mirrored the image in layout app to create a symmetrical pattern. The colour pallette has a slider for metallic and non metallic versions.

I see lots of shapes in it that could be faces or a cat or other animals or even bodies? Pareidolia again (seeing faces in things)

Mornings…?

I try and write a limerick for Esther Chiltons blog on a Monday. Someone puts a prompt word up and people respond.

I usually forget to copy my limerick for myself but I did today. Its a bit clumsy, the lines are quite long, but it does have the structure of a limerick. That is the first two lines have the last word rhyming, the next two lines rhyme with each other and then the final fifth line rhymes with the first two.

Here it is, the prompt word was ‘lark’ which can appear anywhere in the limerick, not necessarily at the end of a line.

I’m very rarely up with the lark
Early attendance I get a black mark
Just goes to show staying up late
Does not myself an early bird make
I get up so late, its already gone dark!

Pigeon sketch

Digital finger painting.

Done late last night, I was in a doodling mood. I completely covered another drawing I had saved but wasn’t very pleased with. Its interesting to do this because by saving changes I’m not adding a new file and I hope it means I am saving some phone memory. Yes I draw on my phone, so the tiny screen makes it hard to add details.

I think my pigeon has a bit of sass, he’s cheeky and he’s just taking off to make mischief somewhere….
