Slight green tinge?

I was looking outside tonight as I’d got the door open to cool down. I thought the sky looked a bit strange so I set my phone camera to ‘night’ which stacks a series of images over 60 seconds. I saw the photo had a slight green tinge so I took another shot, this time it was normal blue. There is a chance of auroras again because there has been corona activity on the sun.

Apologies for the poor quality of the photo, I shake too much so I get bad camera shake!

Almost bedtime

The nights are getting longer

The days slightly shorter

It’s almost bedtime

But I’m hot

My heart aches, my mind too

So I’ll sit and watch TV a bit

No sensible thoughts in my mind

Just watching the nights decline

Into a slow dawn.

Maybe the sun will shine bright

In the morning after this night.

I don’t know

Time goes slow

When you’re alone

With the pain of loss.

Cats eyes

Sitting in the dark watching TV, the cat decided to jump up on the back of the chair. So I put my camera in selfie mode. I don’t look too good but I couldn’t focus in on the cat easily. She looks like she’s a bit unsure about the whole caper!

I’m busy trying to sort out some paperwork today, but I’ll be back later. I should get some photos in the garden of cherry and pear blossom if I get time.

Missing mystery

I’m a little perplexed. I’ve been reading a, Brother Cadviael book over the past few nights, to take my mind off things. They are a series of mediaeval murder mysteries that I like. So when I came to bed I thought it would be waiting for me, but it isn’t. I was hot and bothered last night, so it might have fallen on the floor by the bed, but I can’t see it. I also went into the other room this morning but it’s not there either.

Things go missing sometimes, and generally that’s not a problem. I sometimes think there are borrowers in the house ( like the children’s book, with characters called Arrietty and Pod?). But at the moment I just want my book back. It’s out of place, out of possession and position. It’s bugging me. So I’m writing this as another distraction. Mysterious and also frustrating. I guess I will have to give up and go to sleep….

Meteors

If it’s clear tonight you might catch the end of the gemini meteor shower! There might be up to 100 meteors (shooting stars) an hour. They are grains of dust the size of a grain of sand burning up in the atmosphere. Bigger pieces can appear as fireballs. They are the remains of dust particles from a comet or asteroid. The Geminids are named after the sign of the zodiac they seem to come from. Gemini (the stars are castor and pollux). Bigger pieces that land are known as meteorites and can be worth a lot of money.

From Google :

Meteor showers tend to be associated with a particular space body; in the case of the Geminids, the source is an asteroid or space rock known as 3200 Phaethon. Every December, Earth runs into the stream of debris the asteroid leaves behind, bringing a new wave of crumbs into our atmosphere that shine as shooting stars.

So if you look out tonight I hope you see the shooting stars x

Today is….

So, we have equal amounts of day and night today according to this.

Days will get shorter than nights until the Winter Solstice around the 21st of December 2023, then lengthen again. In the Southern Hemisphere the days will get longer until their Summer Solstice.

I don’t like the lack of sunlight and the change from British Summer time to Greenwich Mean time also gets to me. We lose an hour of evening daylight in October, although we get lighter mornings. But studies in the 1960’s or 1970’s showed that overall there were less accidents when they kept British Summertime for three years. Sadly the change was abandoned.

Maybe we could revisit the idea? Saving an hours electricity in the winter evenings might even help the environment?
