Air

Blurry photo of my painting Air, part of four images including Earth, Water and Fire. I imagined the spirit of Air, rather like the faces of cherubs with puffed out cheeks blowing storms across ancient mariners maps the yellow and orange at the top is the sun being hidden behind clouds. I like the cheeky and mischievous face that stares out of the painting. It’s probably a little anachronistic, almost Victorian in style, but it’s a semi abstract acrylic on canvas. I just wish I’d taken a better photo. It is for sale.

Air

A painting from a few years ago, a bit burry with camera shake. It’s one of four I did to represent Earth, Air, Fire and Water. It was a series I really enjoyed. Working with the flow of paint, allowing my imagination free rein. It’s acrylic on canvas. Two of the set had already been sold and I was thinking of painting replacement images. I wish I had, I’m not sure I ever will. X

Buds required

Come on rain, its been the driest February for years. The trees and bushes need a good sprinkling of rain. I can see tiny buds on our willow tree but they aren’t opening. The branches and twigs are bare. We may get some snow this week. But I didn’t know that ten centimetres of snow is equivalent to one centimetre of rain? That’s because fallen snow is mainly made up of air (think of how snow flakes are crystals that branch and leave gaps and air pockets). Let it rain, for a while, water the trees, please!

Post industry

Industrial,

Smoke belched high in the sky

Soot fell on childrens faces.

Clogged lungs

Cotton fell like dirty snow

From grey clouds

Skudding on a raw east wind.

Blast furnaces glowed

Brightening sullen grey clouds

Into false, rosy sunsets

Men walked, doubled over

In the black and dusty mines

Water dripped hot and dirty

Down bent necks

whilst picks and shovels

Hewed at the coal.

Then suddenly

Worlds changed

Smoke and smog was banned

Cholera and typhoid alleviated.

Government and Unions United for once.

Health for all, insuring life.

Workers deserving clean air and water.

Post industrial, jobs went

To other places, other lands

Workers not so lucky

Breathing a centurys old air

Forced to work for a pittance

One people taking the place of another

Supporting our modern, post industrial life

And money travels upwards

Into more billionaires pockets

On post industrial beaches….

Earth is clean for those that can pay.

Sunset

Sunset looking out towards Cheshire/Shropshire. Its been a cold and breezy day today but plenty of sunshine. I went out drawing for an hour, then I went for a little walk this evening round Penkhull. It wasn’t far, and it was very chilly. I felt a bit better. I didn’t sleep well last night and the cold air refreshed me. Good to see the sunset.
