Kilometers

How far I walked today. Its not a massive amount but it was up and down and up again. Lots of hills. I’ve been doing this walking challenge for 56 days now and my total mileage is around 181.5 since 1st February. That’s an average of 22.6 miles a week. My hubby has walked with me a few times and the rest mostly with my friend. She always walks further than me.

It’s interesting to me to work it out, but I might be boring you!

I did work out that if I walked another 12 miles I would have got Exeter in Devon!

I have short legs

I just checked my step counter and it came up with this for March. But I do have short legs so it’s not as impressive as you might think. Plus this is steps not miles! Anyway I’ve surprised myself. I think I’ve done 55 days since starting the 100 day walking challenge with my friends. I think I’m slowly getting fitter. My average walk is around three miles. I’m tired and aching, but I will keep going barring injury or illness. Still over 250,000 steps is not bad going for someone who was basically sedentary before that. Yes I was doing a few walks a week , but I think doing this has helped enormously. X

Sleeping mask…

On the corner of my bookcase in the bedroom sits my breathing mask for sleep aponea. Tried to draw it..#bandofsketchers prompt ‘edge,’

I have something called sleep aponea. When you sleep, your throat relaxes and can close up. I didn’t know, I just knew I was very tired, to the extent I started to fall asleep at work. I found out sleep aponea can cause weight gain, diabetes, heart problems and other issues. I didn’t even know I snored as my hubby is deaf.

Wearing a mask is not always comfortable. If it comes loose it feels like a tale force wind blowing in your face.

Camellia

Walking today, did just shy of 3.5 miles. We saw this lovely Camellia in someone’s front garden. As the sun lowered the colours shone out. As we were walking we were discussing whether to add plants to our garden hedge that is getting rather thin and straggly. This is now a candidate, together with hawthorn, buckthorn and Holly. Maybe with a bit of beech hedging added… Its nice to contemplate the spring garden. Soon there will be frogspawn and cherry blossom (not together, obviously!)

Shaking

How do I explain my shaking arm? My left shoulder is ‘freezing’ not frozen. But I have muscle wasting. Because of this I don’t have the strength and power in my shoulder and arm that I had. I try and hold my left hand still when I am holding the phone and drawing, or holding my tablet or even while drawing on the computer. My hand and arm shakes and I can’t draw a straight line! See attempts above. I am doing the exercises but I’m worried it won’t improve. Does anyone else have this problem?

Pinchetel

Three miles walked today round the village in a city of Penkhull. Part of Stoke on Trent. To reach the village centre we decided to walk up a hill called Honeywall, past the Beehive public house and this sign erected in 2011 by the Penkhull Residents Association. Instead of continuing straight up the hill we walked down an interesting side road and then right an up to the Church of St Thomas which stands on the village green. As we walked past a flower bed we spotted these bottles decorated as bottle ovens with a top hatted figure standing next to them. Then we walked down and around Thistley Hough and finally by circuitous routes home to make sure the walk was long enough. I’ve only walked about 22 miles this week, a bit down on last week, but the weather has been wet and windy, and my hubby doesn’t want to walk to far, but I feel fitter (and tired). Day 42!

Going to bed

Before midnight!

It must be a blue moon, or an eclipse, but going to bed before midnight? Unheard of in this house! I think I’ve tired myself out. I have a book I want to read snuggled under my pillow. I’m not interested in the film my hubby is watching, something with Bruce Willis being brutal. I attended an on line singing festival for six hours today, then went shopping (walked there and back), then finally an evening walk. My arm, knees and feet hurt. Enough. Goodnight.

Just back from an evening walk…

Cold, dark, windy

Not wet yet

Clouds cross the sky

Blot the stars

Sunset brings chill air

Creeping across the land,

Grass flattens against its cheek.

One step then another

Striding? More a cold shuffle

Tired feet and knees

But I keep going.

My walk is short for you.

But it’s enough for me….

Down the river trent

Our four and a half mile walk today. Along the river Trent and back along side streets. The river had fallen trees across it. There was litter and willow trees springing to life. Not exactly the romantic scene I imagined.

The Trent starts nearby and wends it way north and east till it reaches the North sea at Hull. I wonder how long it takes a molicule of water to travel along its whole length… One of the things you ponder as you walk along!

I am a lightweight!

After days of walking decent distances the last two have been a bit of a disappointment. Yesterday I walked uphill though, and got my heart points in. Today it was only because I had to deliver the car to the garage for repairs and walk home via a cafe for a takeaway breakfast, go and help a friend with an online form because she was struggling with filling it in, and this evening going shopping in the local supermarket to collect essentials like milk and bread. During the day I also took part in a lecture that overran somewhat and was busy trying to catch up with household tasks. I have got to do a couple of observational drawings to catch up my weekly quota. I will try and post the results of them later. Still got to wash the shopping (yes I do that) and consider working on an editorial illustration that we have to create for college thus week. But now I’m sitting down with the cat on my lap. Might have a quick nap!
