splodges…

A few weeks ago I was happier,

painting splodges for a college project,

letting colour flow

and wrap itself into my mind

warping patterns

playing with inking rollers

freedom.

Then I was sick

nothing serious,

not covid

not anything really

just pain

continuing.

I have an appointment tomorrow

to check my pain

sort it out

Make it go away…

please.

then I shall sleep,

not wake hourly

gripped by a twisted cramp.

please.

Ink and glitter

Thinking about making backgrounds, I tried using some green sparkly ink. It’s meant to spray out, but the spray nozzle won’t work, so I unscrewed the top and dragged the ink in lines with the plastic tube that dips into the ink. Then I added some black ink lines. Finally I used a gold, round glitter stamp. Of course I had forgotten to clean it from last time I used it, so it didn’t work as well as I wanted.

I don’t know what I could use this for. It looks a bit like trellis work in a garden so I might try adding images of flowers? Maybe in an analogue way or digitally. It could also be used for a screen print for perhaps a silk scarf?

Duplications

If you start with a photo of an object and multiply it you can get some interesting effects and patterns. I started with a photo of our halogen heater, changed it to black and white in a filter and then duplicated it over and over again with my photo booth layout app. I have put them next to each other so you can see the original black and white photo and the duplicated ones. I think the second photo reminds me of a wool blanket I had on my bed as a child.

Cat painting

Sometimes I go a little abstract, and then I particularly like adding flowing lines and spirals. I guess I’m a pattern lover. This cat painting is acrylic on canvas. I did it in 2008. I do remember painting it but I don’t know if it was ever exhibited, I think perhaps I should have an archive but I never got round to it. I think I can see a hint of of illustration ideas in this. But then Ive always been disorganised. I am thinking of setting up a new webpage which will only be for illustrations so that I can add images that might be for sale, or look into doing tee shirt designs. I’ve heard of places like Redbubble , Spoonflower or Square, is anyone familiar with them?

Abstract and strange

We know how something natural looks. It is often untidy, not always symmetrical, analogue not digital. But when you play with photos you can create structures that don’t exist in reality, you can expand distances and change perspectives. That’s what I did with the photo I used to create this. A kind of tree tray or chandelier. I don’t know, but abstracting as much fun as I can…

Fruits….

Blackberries, before they are ripe, before the sun ripened them. Turning them juicy and sweet. I thought this image that I’d duplicated and mirrored made them look almost like insect eyes.

There are patterns that seem to replicate each other in the world and the universe. By playing with images you can get some startling effects.

Autumn woman

Acrylic on canvas from five years ago. I get so excited by colours and patterns, sorry its a bit blurry. I don’t have the painting anymore. I think I did a second version of this, they both sold. I wonder sometimes whether I should do more paintings like this or are they too abstract/not abstract enough….

As people who know me know, I enjoy doing various things, that’s why I call myself an explorative fine artist, and perhaps an illustrator.

Can you tell?

It’s Yellow… The colour for today’s #bandofsketchers prompt.

Is is the heater we have on in the living room to boost the warmth. It’s usually a cat magnet but they were not playing today. We do have a large wooden cat but I have accentuated the colour of it and made it larger to increase the line of yellow that runs through the drawing.

This was done with felt pens and permanent marker pens. I wonder what colour we will get next.
