I see a face reflected in water.
Leaning forward
A large moustache
Burly shoulders
Frowning brows
Downcast eyes
Big beaky nose
And….
A bow tie of leaves..
New paintings and regular art updates.

How did you get up there?
I’d like to know?
Did you fly.
we’re you blown?
Did someone drop you
From a plane
Or parachuted
Thrown by a base jumper?
High up
Like a seed, swirled
Into the air currents
Green Square shape,
Points on corners
are leaves.
Who cares?
You are there….

Tasty roses, like cake
Spread out like icing flowers
Sculpted into petals
Shaped and molded
Moulded? Moldering?
Complications
Convolution
Like a convolvulus
Flowers that multiply
Given in friendship
Pattern of mind and ideas.

Painted a few years ago. Each dot of paint chosen to fit together and the branches and twigs manipulated to form faces. This was actually based on a photo of a tree up at the Croft at Penkhull, when the sun was setting and the sky looked like it was on fire. But I had to embellish it. I really like finding ‘spirits’ in my art. Sometimes I paint a subject straight, without playing with it, but other times I let go. This was one of those occasions. It might not work for you, but it made me very happy when it was finished. It went to a new home. Wish my photo of it was better.

I do see strange things when I make these patterns. What do you see? I noticed a teddy bear in the clouds, and perhaps another bear head pointing downwards. The floating branches add an interesting effect as well. I like the scifi, nightmarish effect… Beware the strange tree branches!

Leaves on fire
Bright like stained glass.
Arched and curved.
Twisted and crisp
Like brittle sugar glass
Crispy or soggy
Under children’s feet,
Kicking the fallen leaves.
Leaves because they’ve left?

I see a cloud bear
Up in the sky
Wearing a belt
And flying so high.
Little black nose
And shiny blue eyes
High in the air
What a surprise
It just appeared
out of the blue
Crazy big ears
Listening to you.

The leaves will turn soon, green turning to golds and oranges, the wind blowing through the branches, stripping them until they are bare. Cold and frosty mornings crisping the leaf litter. So that eventually the skeletons of their veins are exposed. Children making prints from the leaves, painting them and pressing them down onto paper. Making them into patterns. Making them into wreaths and table decorations. Using gold and bronze spray paint to cover them. Adding a bit of Holly or Ivy and a red candle for Christmas cheer.
After autumn, Winter chills, usually wet now instead of snow. The branches bare until Spring arrives. Then buds, expanding into leaves again. Back to Summer, heat, flowers, scents, shimmering haze. Life.

Such a calming colour. Green in plants is caused by chlorophyll in their leaves as sunlight converts water and air into sugars and starches.
Green, the colour of the Amazon and other forests and jungles. The colour of growing crops and leaves on flowering plants. Cool and tranquil, shady and soft. Then cactuses spiky, full of fluid, green against the rocks of deserts and hot dry lands.
Green means life, it means various other things too. Green for go, green for someone new to a job, green when you feel ill or queasy. Green seaweed, green on trains, the green walking man light on pedestrian crossings. So many things. Green was a livery for different train services. British rail trains used to be green. Even science fiction has green blooded Vulcans and a character called Green Lantern. Green for different alcoholic and fruit drinks. It’s interesting where you can find it.
What would we do without it.
