23 eggs!

It was an offer I wasn’t going to refuse. I’ll go shopping said hubby. So I said just take one bag then you can’t buy too much.

Do you need a list? No I’ll be OK. Well don’t buy a roast chicken, just get some thighs. We don’t need a lot, just a few things.

I knew there was a problem when he carried in two huge bags of shopping. I’ve not got much space in the fridge.

He bought:

An amaryllis (we already have FOUR)

A loaf of bread (we already have one and two half used loaves).

Two torches and some batteries (to go with at least five he already has).

A bunch of flowers

A box of frozen haddock

Three tubs of olives,

A bag of spinach

A roast chicken

Beefburgers

Gammon steaks,

A beef joint

And fifteen eggs (to go with the eight he already bought yesterday).

When I asked why he had bought the eggs he said you can never have enough eggs!

Hubby drawing

He’s still colouring in the book although it’s 2.30am. So I did a very quick sketch of him drawing (five minutes). He’s got his own style. But that doesn’t matter. It’s the fact that he’s doing it which is good. It gives him focus and flow. It’s great to see him doing it.

I just watched a programme about the life of the artist Bob Ross and how he taught art in America in the 1980’s & 1990’s. He sadly died at a young age.

Art is sometimes therapy. It is a good thing. I would encourage people to take it up.

Hubby’s glass bowl.

Forget when we went to a fused glass workshop at Spode but we both went to a workshop with a glass artist called Angela Ashton and made flat, square, fused glass bowls that were slumped over a mould. I’m showing you this because his design was much better than mine. I overdid it, too many patterns, he kept it simple and classic. I think I could learn a lesson from this.

(slumped clear glass with fused coloured glass and metal pieces including copper).

I have a sarcasm gene

My hubby went shopping today.

I asked him to get savoury food.

So he got:

4 tins of tomatoes, a litre of skimmed milk, some mushrooms, brown bread.

Then, a large Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, mint chocolate matchsticks, grapes, iced buns, a chocolate toffee apple, clementines, bananas, two pomegranates, dried cranberries, two jars of honey, a pot of jam. He also got himself four bottles of beer and four cans of sweat cider.

I’m diabetic, so I can’t eat any of these and can’t really drink much alcohol. My sarcasm gene kicked in so I told him he was being ‘sweet’, I said he should get me some honey roasted ham or some duck in orange sauce. After I washed the shopping and put it away I asked him how much he had spent. I guess 90% of what he bought is for him.

Slightly annoyed!

Hubby’s drawings

It’s great to see his drawings, he doesn’t draw very often and definitely has his own style. He bought himself a drawing kit with a drawing board, (a piece of card) some different harnesses of pencils, an eraser and a pencil sharpener. The pictures were his own ideas, the mountainous one is from the cover of a book about the lake district, and the train drawing is taken from a picture on the cover of a leaflet from the Apedale railway. I hope he does more. I’m going to buy him a sketch pad.

If anyone wants to watch some drawing techniques go over to my friend Martha Kennedy’s WordPress pages. Sorry I don’t have a link, I will try and find one. She has done some drawing tutorials over on YouTube.

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt, old.

My hubby, forty years together and we are both getting old. Various marker pens on cartridge paper. He didn’t keep still or I would have done a better job on it. I’ve bought a few more permanent marker pens. Some are OK, but some seriously smell of something like acetone? I used a silver pen to try and add grey to his hair and reflections/highlights on his face.

Hubby making apple bread?

An explosion in the kitchen? No hubby making apple bread. There was flour over the draining board, the crockery drainer, in the sink, on the floor. He got me to scrape the dough off his hands it was so sticky. He had added oats and rye flour to a bag of breadmaking flour which had added yeast. It wasn’t rising very well but he added cooking apples to the loaves.

Now they are in the oven, cooking, I wonder how they will turn out? In half an hour I will know.

My hero

Batman mural I painted.

No not Batman, my hubby. We were walking home this evening, when we saw a young couple over the other side of the road start to argue. The man was taller than the young woman and had started swearing at her. She was arguing back but getting the worst end of things, suddenly he picked her up over his shoulder and started to run with her. Like a rugby tackle. There were people walking past next to the couple but they were doing nothing, just walking past and away. Suddenly next to me my hubby started shouting. Oi, put her down! Leave her alone! What do you think you are doing?!, the man put the girl down. They were still fighting though. So he carried on shouting, leave her alone! I’m calling the police if you don’t leave her alone! We were still over the road, I got my phone out to ring them up, but the couple ran off into the darkness. I hope the woman will be OK. She ran off with the man, perhaps they had been drinking or taking drugs? At least my hubby intervened. He stopped them hurting each other.
