One of the patterns I created for my final major project. It was to introduce the idea of abstract art to children within a story book. Each page in black and white tells the story. The opposite page is based on patterns in the environment or the scale patterns of dragon scales. Colours in juxtaposition to strong black and white figurative drawings. If you follow my blog you will know about the book I’m thinking of publishing. I know I’m going on about it but I feel passionate about it.
I hope that my book will get readers. I’m thinking of publishing it online but have no experience of this. If you write have you done this? Is it worth the hassle and which publisher would you recommend. I can’t afford vanity publishing. X
One of our cats and a painting my hubby did of another cat thirty or forty years ago. He has his own unique style, I wish he would do more of them. We both love our cats so it’s nice to be able to share a picture that hubby has created.
Think the cat was comfy on our bed. He goes up there and curls up where it is warm and quiet. I don’t blame him!
This is the sheet of lino that I carved out a dragon from for part of my MA final major project. I inked it up and got a reasonable result. I would like to try again and see if I can increase the complexity of the work. Its always good to learn new skills (without causing injury to myself). I don’t know if you can tell but it’s a dragon in flight. There is a girl riding it, the story is she helps it find it’s way home.
Getting his zzzzeds in. I love it when he comes in and settles down on the arms of the chairs between us. He has his own sparkly purple cushion. I tap on it and he jumps up. Then he will lie down and extend his front paws. I love touching his paws because its like a show of trust between us after being an outside abandoned cat for so long. Then he curls up and goes to sleep. Yes I know cats sleep for hours. But I see this as a sign that he knows that he is safe now.
A friend reading at Etruria Industrial Museum. The orange area is the ink from the previous page showing through. I did this with a brush pen so it works slightly differently to a fine liner pen. Dark areas fill in better than with a thin pen. I might add texture in Photodirector later. It’s great to try and switch things round and explore different ideas. Practice in anything improves what you do. I’m also trying to teach myself a bit of lino cutting. More of that soon.
Squint and see faces, patterns, monsters. Tipped over doubled image. The colours help make it vibrant and interesting. Plant life can be amazing.
Rip a bit of paper up, mirror it a few times. See what happens. That’s it. Just a combination of colours and contrasting shadows that appear to make the bits float above a purple speckled cushion. Switch the bits around and it makes an interesting pattern.
Watching my friends dance along to the Boat band. There were lots more people there but they were all behind me! I think they were dancing to a polka. Lovely surroundings and a great place to visit. Now I know where it is (down a little lane off the A51 near Rugeley in Staffordshire) I think we will go back. Even if its only to watch people dancing. It’s also close to the river and the Worsley garden centre and Nature reserve, a pub by the river and an antiques centre, so there is lots to see if you want to visit them. x
The Boat band playing at Bishton Hall today. It was great to hear live music. Fiddle, trombone, guitar and squeezebox (accordion?). The fun of hearing reels and jigs, creole and folk songs. Hearing the sloop John B played with enthusiasm. So entertaining. So much fun. They are always worth listening to. Enjoyed it.
