Eye-opener
Photo of my eye duplicated then edited in photodirector. Using a brush tool and a style tool. It might not be pretty but I hope it is interesting. I could imagine turning it into a print. The more I play, the more I learn. I like the colours, the shading, the contrast of marks even though they are created by an algorithm. To me it’s fun.
Mirrored cat
Playing with photo editing in my layout app. When you have a subject like a cat you can duplicate and mirror the image and make something interesting happen. Choose to mirror half the face and you end up with a strong stare. I could have made her nose look more natural, but I prefer the odd symmetry this photo gives me.
Green grows
Playing with pattern again, took a photo of the garden on manual exposure and the sky and blossom on the trees was very over exposed, but the darker areas were more defined.
I then did my usual thing of multiplying the image onto four, then turning each square so it lined up into a pattern.
I get a great enjoyment out of creating these semi abstract images. The final result is interesting because of how soe of the foliage seems to float in the centre of the picture.
Tree pillar
Went down the surreal route (root) with this photo a couple of years ago. This tree ‘pillar’ looks like its holding up a green roof.
Getting an image like this is based on placement of the object in the original picture. If you place a strong pattern in one corner, or in the middle, with interesting contrast or colours, you can multiply it and create something etherial. I like to think this could be a home for elves or fairie folk. Mad, but interesting.

Sea and Sky
Surreal image of sea and sky. I choose things that will make a good picture when they are duplicated and put together in a pattern. The waves were breaking in the distance and the sand was thinly covered with a film of water. The groynes are wearing out but still stop the sand drifting. I like the triangles on poles at either end of them (only one in the original photo) I think this makes a plesant composition…
Tree and faces
I decided to draw a tree with a pinkish sunset in the background. I used the ArtRage oils app.then I decided to see what it would look like if I duplicated and mirrored it. Now I can see a 🙀 cat! And various other patterns…. I’m one of those people who see faces in anything. I think I heard people saying that you can be employed to look for faces in patterns so they can alter designs and remove them. I could do that job! Art and Design seems full of them…. X
On the beach
by duplicating and mirroring a photo of a North Wales beach I took on Christmas day I came up with this surreal image. Hope you like it.
Branches
Moody duplicated photo. Created by taking a photo of the outer branches of a tree so that once mirrored the branches seem to float and create a pattern. Though not black and white there is a monochrome effect because of the silhouettes of the branches and the mainly grey skies. Ancient aliens seem to hovver over the ground.
Photo of washing up?
I think this is crockery on a drainer but it’s a while since I took the photo and then modified it in the layout app on my phone. I just found it and was struck by its straight and fluid lines. So I’ve posted it.
