Panic buying

sketch-1583946152728

You know when the world has gone mad when all the toilet paper has gone off the shelves in the supermarket and you have to DRAW a loo roll.

And yet the question is WHY? The virus that is going round makes you have a temperature and a dry cough, followed by possible pneumonia and heart and liver problems in severe cases. There is no detail of upset stomachs? I was listening to the radio and they were saying it’s just the human psyche, big packets of toilet roll look important, so people buy them. It’s the siege mentality, if you are going to have to ‘self isolate’ it is important to have enough food and supplies in to last for a couple of weeks. But, sometimes we humans go a bit mad. One truck at the Blackwall tunnel (which runs under the Thames) was stopped by the highways department because it was overloaded. When they opened it up it was crammed with toilet paper. The driver got a £300 fine.

Sleeping Cat

DSC_2478

The cat is sleeping next to me on the chair arm. He’s curled up, warm and snug. Now he’s got a paw over his nose, keeping the light out. Soon his tail and legs will be twitching as he falls into a dream, chasing toy mice or licking cream from his bowl.

His ears are moving around, as if hearing his sister coming running up to him. They often chase each other around the room or up and down the stairs. She comes up and pounces on him, he tries to catch her…

Deep breathing, whiskers are twitching, he’s so settled. It’s mesmerising, watching him sleep….

Writing in the ad breaks

I want to write tonight but there are a couple of really good films on, so I’m writing during the advertisement breaks. The films are on a channel where the ads get longer and more frequent as the film goes on. It becomes increasingly irritating because just when you get to an interesting bit… It breaks….. Grr.

Actually I’m missing the film now because I’m writing, but that doesn’t matter. I’ve found putting words down in a blog enthralls me. It might not be a great blog, but it helps me sort things out mentally. The cat is sleeping next to me. Twitching as he dreams. It’s nice to just relax….

I saw a face in the wood.

Literally!

I was looking at some pine wall cladding and saw this. I know it’s my imagination, but it does look like a face doesn’t it? Especially the brown eye side….

Looks like a sad Ent, hoom, hoom…. He’s waiting to go to his Ent-moot (see Lord of the Rings book). Don’t be sad little Ent!

Rocking horse

Another of my digital drawings, and variations by using filters.

I tend to try different filters to see what the results are. Can you flip the image? Change the background? Alter the hue, colours, brightness, contrast, size, sharpness, solidity, edges.. Make a change, if you don’t like it click the back button, or save it and put another filter over it. When I had photoshop I used all sorts of filters that I don’t have now. But what I have on this small phone is so much more than I had on one of my early smart phones. You just have to try it out.

Cats dream

Quick watercolour I did on a postcard for a blind auction for charity a few years ago. You had to submit pictures on cards so they could be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

I did a few and enjoyed doing it. Just creating off the cuff pieces. I don’t know how well they did, but I didn’t get any of them back..

Here are a few more, just quick, bright and cheerful.

Morning glory plants

DSC_2405

A few years ago painted this morning glory as it flowered. I’d nurtured the plant on a windowledge, carefully watered it. Put it outside when the summer was warm enough so it would stay alive.

It was in a hanging basket outside in the garden when I decided to paint it in situ. As I painted the flower opened and then at the end of the day closed and wilted (the same thing happened with the following days flowers). Hard to  capture but beautiful. I might do a copy or similar painting.

Acrylic on canvas. Small flowers are lobelia, and the cream ones are surfinias.

Bad week!

Untitled67_001

Oh what a week! My stats are down because I haven’t been writing much here. That’s because I’ve been ill. And that’s because someone in our panto cast decided to come in with a bad cold and proceeded to cough and sneeze over the rest of us. So grrrr!

I’ve finally started to feel a bit better today, taken a couple of paintings up to a local gallery and come home. Phew, I’m tired now!

St David’s Day

sketch-1583103412815

“Saint David’s Day is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1 March, the date of Saint David’s death in 589 AD. The feast has been regularly celebrated since the canonisation of David in the 12th century, by Pope Callixtus II, though it is not a national holiday in the UK.” Wikipedia

Sorry to use a quote from Wikipedia but it was easier than writing it all out!

St Davids is also the smallest city in Britain. It is in South West Wales. Its somewhere I’ve always meant to visit, but never got there.
