Pattern

Life’s a pattern

Like branches and twigs

Trailing through life

First growing bigger

Like the main trunk and boughs

Then petering to smaller stems.

Life follows this pattern, growing

Then diminishing.

Patterns give me hope

I see connections

An intuition of order

Despite a possible chaos.

Patterns in music

Crystals too,

All sorts of things

Some of them new.

I don’t bother with plain

It’s such a pain

Give me gaudy and complex

And intricate not tame!

Spiralling

This drawing is another meditation. As I spiralled around drawing complex patterns I thought about aspects of mine and my siblings life. By thinking about her as I drew I could concentrate without getting too upset. I let myself think about how things could be different, and that she may have been spared. I don’t know if it was a comfort but I had been watching a programme about quantum entanglement and the possible multiverse. I am not an astrophysicist and I have no idea if this theory would have any effect on variations of people/places/times, but it gave me a little strange comfort.

Lino, cut

This is the sheet of lino that I carved out a dragon from for part of my MA final major project. I inked it up and got a reasonable result. I would like to try again and see if I can increase the complexity of the work. Its always good to learn new skills (without causing injury to myself). I don’t know if you can tell but it’s a dragon in flight. There is a girl riding it, the story is she helps it find it’s way home.

Broccoli

What is broccoli, a green equivalent to cauliflower?

According to Wikipedia Broccoli is an edible green plant in the cabbage family whose large flowering head, stalk and small associated leaves are eaten as a vegetable. Broccoli is classified in the Italica cultivar group of the species Brassica oleracea. WikipediaOrigin: Italy, more than 2,000 years ago. Scientific name: Brassica oleracea var. italicaHigher classification: Wild cabbage Rank: VarietyCultivar group: Italica.

I like it, I like the Romaesco version I think it’s called. The version with sculptural spiral swirls that are like a version of fibonnacci number patterns. The spirals have a fractal look about them. If you’ve never seen it look it up online. It’s a fascinating shape.

Pomegranate

Todays #bandofsketchers prompt was sweet so I drew this pomegranate before hubby ate it. I only had about twenty minutes to half an hour as I was going out for a walk straight afterwards. Trying to represent the seeds was hard. I had thought of cutting it into quarters but halved was easier and I managed to get a nice curved feel to the outside of it. And it was sweet.

Black fineliner and permanent markers.

Fushias

Fushias in the garden, like little ballerinas, skirts whirling, pale pink over dark pink petals. Stamens hanging down, like little legs pirouetting in a dance on thin air…

The colours thrill. Pinks, browns greens and purples. The background blurs into fluid texture, waiting for your quiet death as cool ice freezes you in withered majesty.
