Jug photo

DSC_2392

I was visiting the Waiting room gallery today to take in my two new paintings. I saw this jug (is it sprig molded?)

It looked classical, it might end up being a pottery painting. The dark green really brings out the colour of the jug, while the shadows help give it a three dimensionality. The shelf it is on is white painted wood which gives it a nice texture. It’s owned by my friend Alison. I think she said it might be a Portmeirion piece although there is no backstamp or other marks on its base.

Taken in natural light from the gallery window on my mobile phone.

New green man

DSC_2389

A new green man is emerging, the face is based on a photo of someone called Sam Fender? He’s a musician apparently. I liked his angular, thin face. It looks rather elf like. I’m working on the tones and shades. Will try and finish it tomorrow.

I’m trying to get this and the self portrait finished for international women’s day next weekend. I haven’t been doing much but I feel like I’m emerging from a long black tunnel. Anyway it’s after 2am.i wil take my cough medicine and get off to bed.

Green Woman self portrait

DSC_2398_optimized (7)

Suddenly I’m painting again! I decided to do something with this picture. It was only roughly worked out. I decided I wanted to make a self portrait as a green woman. I used a photo of myself on my phone and overlaid leaves onto it. I don’t know if it’s finished but I liked trying to bring out the shaping and shadows on it.

Sitting in the living room, I should go down the studio, but my cold is worse. Anyway I will work on another partially painted picture.

Looking out

FB_IMG_1568676790881

Painting from a few years ago. It’s one that I did about imagination and the mind. I don’t know where it went. It may have been sold. The foreground is meant to represent axons and synapses in the brain. Thought happens, but how do you describe it? How you depict it? The eyes are supposed to be the window to the mind.

And how do we know the mind is in charge. Only a few centuries ago, the heart was seen as the centre of emotions. Hence the phrases like “letting your heart rule your head”.

I’ve done similar pictures in watercolour pencils, but they are probably in a sketchbook somewhere. I’ve got too much stuff.

Watch the birdie…

These images are about four years old. Drawn in sketcher free, then altered in another app that I don’t have anymore after changing phones. I wanted to get a feeling of printing, maybe a monoprint or an etching. I like doing things in one app then playing about with it in another. That way you get more effects than using just one digital application. I want to do more with other filters. I’m thinking of downloading other art apps.

Caught a cold.. So colouring..

I hate getting colds, but it’s that time of year….

So my sister visited and showed me a website that does something similar to the adult colouring books you can buy these days.

Now I think I’m addicted! It’s certainly taking my mind off the cough I’ve developed. It does mean I’ve wasted a lot of time doing nothing. But I need a rest. I’m hoping whatever it is, it doesn’t develop into anything worse. In the meantime, back to colouring.

Panto scenery? Oh yes it is!

IMG_20200223_215357_262IMG_20200223_215222_430IMG_20200223_215120_620IMG_20200223_214914_951

Now the panto is over I can share the scenery paintings I did. The market scene was painted with the help of John who started it, (he’s one of the stage cew) and he helped me with the sky on the desert scene. The flat figure came back out of the “mangle” after the character playing a policeman crawled through it in search of Aladdin. I also added clothes to the front of the “washing machine”, the man playing a second policeman crawled into it, and after a few seconds a child climbed out, as if shrunken, but with a full sized uniform!

I had a lot of fun doing these, and I may be painting a mural in Wales now I’ve finished doing this.

Above our door

_20200220_143806

I designed this about 25 years ago. A cat resting in the window above our front door. My friend Phil Shaw who was a carpenter also knew how to make stained glass, so I drew out the pattern and he made this up for me. It’s been there ever since and I love it. When we had our house double glazed I wanted to have this incorporated into a window but they couldn’t do it, so it remains, behind the single glass window. Letting the sunlight in. Coloured patches on the carpet.

Got to start painting again

_20200219_130113this is a self portrait I started last year, but haven’t finished. So where best to start when you have been a bit blocked, than to work on something like this.

I want to do a series of ‘green’ portraits. The idea being that I can make a different image that is striking and interesting. Although there is a basic structure done on this I may make a lot of changes. Its definitely a work in progress.

Birdie

FB_IMG_1581774474897

Colour and shape and hopefully humour. Digital drawing, playing, having fun…. Little fat birdie. Feathers flying, bird, not quite, of paradise? Little heart shape in its eye, only just noticed it, a gleam there. Primary and secondary colours. Swirls and twirls…. I think I need to sleep, I’m dreaming of baby canaries!
