Cat drawing

DSC_2392

So is this by you?

Yes it’s an old drawing.

When did you draw it?

I don’t really remember, I think it’s over twenty five years oldy, but as I didn’t sign or date it I can’t be sure.

Where did it come from?

I was doing some spring cleaning and chucking out old letters and envelopes. I found it in a dusty file.

Why did you draw it?

I think it was when we used to go to kite festivals, which is why I think it’s from the 1990’s although it might be older. I remember being interested in the images on kites, like Chinese or Japanese art. The pose is vaguely based on a tiger I think.

Do you like it?

Mostly, not sure about the ball of wool. But I like the way the cat is twisting in mid air.

So what have you learned?

I might vary the thickness of the lines, I was doing it to add weight and shadow to the drawing. It’s an ink drawing on cartridge paper.

So why did you interview yourself?

I wanted to make my blog a bit more interesting.

Colour that cat…!

FB_IMG_1584397709171

Two year old digital sketch. I’m just posting it for fun. All I’ve done for the last couple of days is moan about the virus or WordPress. Enough!

My love is for colour and pattern. Cats are also in the mix. I’m not saying this is a good drawing. It’s rough and ready, not anatomically correct, but it’s a bit of fun.

I’m going to try and find more apps to draw on. I’ve got obsessed by a colouring by numbers website and I’ve coloured over 200 images in just a few days. I think I’m sticking my head in the sand.

Primary colours, bold lines, pattern = fun?

Get on and finish it!

This has been hidden behind envelopes and letters for weeks, artists block  holding me tight in its grip. So why is it uncovered? Is there going to be a spurt in activity? No, spring cleaning, removing piles of old letters and finding things to shred or burn…. And I cleaned the cooker, cleaned the bathroom sink, did the washing up, cleaned the fridge, the sink in the kitchen, wiped the walls down and… Still didn’t paint, despite having things to do…. My bum needs a good kicking!

Glass hanging

DSC_2392

I would like to do some more glass art. This hanging piece was made last year. It’s made from fused glass. I would like to find a better place to hang it, so that more light can shine through. I’m also not  quite happy with the yellow in it. It slight clashes with the other colours. It’s made with lengths of glass placed horizontally and vertically. It is almost like a plaid pattern.

Fused glass class with Angela Ashton, glass artist. Now based at South Sheilds.

Tree pillar

FB_IMG_1583964660077

Went down the surreal route (root) with this photo a couple of years ago. This tree ‘pillar’ looks like its holding up a green roof.

Getting an image like this is based on placement of the object in the original picture. If you place a strong pattern in one corner, or in the middle, with interesting contrast or colours, you can multiply it and create something etherial. I like to think this could be a home for elves or fairie folk. Mad, but interesting.

Knitted drawing

I loved this drawing app, but when I changed devices I couldn’t get it to load on my new tablet. It was fascinating to see this texture appear in the drawing. I cannot remember where I got it from, and now I can’t even remember it’s name! Over the years I’ve done lots I’d digital art, some of it is more easy to use than others. I think this was relatively simple.

One of the things about art applications is the amount if memory they take. I’ve found that I cannot run all the apps I want to because I mainly use my devices to create art, and that takes up memory on them. I don’t know if I’m unusual in doing this. I probably need to delete a lot of things, it’s just I’m too attached.

Tree spirits

FB_IMG_1583745808146

Four years ago. Tree spirit painting.

This is an idea I have painted a few times. I’m convinced that we need to do more to encourage tree planting. I guess I’m a bit of a tree hugger on the quiet!

I’ve painted trees with faces in them from spring, to autumn and winter. I’ve not done a summer one so far.

This went to a friend who really loves it. There are three faces in the painting as you can see. I did have a picture of it from the front but can’t find it. This came up on my Facebook page ( a useful way of recording my art). I was really pleased with the bright colours in this. I wanted it to look like a glowing sunset. The faces are mysterious and stare out at each other. I think it’s slightly surreal. I admire the movement but it probably needs more of a twist to it to actually be classed as surreal art.

Rocking horse

Another of my digital drawings, and variations by using filters.

I tend to try different filters to see what the results are. Can you flip the image? Change the background? Alter the hue, colours, brightness, contrast, size, sharpness, solidity, edges.. Make a change, if you don’t like it click the back button, or save it and put another filter over it. When I had photoshop I used all sorts of filters that I don’t have now. But what I have on this small phone is so much more than I had on one of my early smart phones. You just have to try it out.

Cats dream

Quick watercolour I did on a postcard for a blind auction for charity a few years ago. You had to submit pictures on cards so they could be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

I did a few and enjoyed doing it. Just creating off the cuff pieces. I don’t know how well they did, but I didn’t get any of them back..

Here are a few more, just quick, bright and cheerful.
