1.23am on Wednesday morning. I’m messing about with filters to create a scaly pattern. The inks were metallic and I tried to enhance the shinyness of it. I mirrored the image four times. Yet another pattern for my current college project. One problem I face was that all the colours are quite similar and of a medium tone, it was difficult to distinguish between dark and light areas.
This was a real leaf today. Its a bit blurred, but the colours are accurate. I walked around a local lake today, only a week later than I intended, but it did me good. It was grey and overcast, there were not many bright leaves, but right at the end of the walk I saw this. Half disintegrated, but colourful and cheerful on a gloomy day, it bought a smile to my face.
Drawing over the top of a green faced man, I used Artrage oils to create this profile of a woman. I had the ‘oils’ set on metallic, it gave the image an old fashioned look. I am glad I can use this app.
Today I was watching celebrity painting challenge and I decided to try and draw the puppet ‘Warhorse ‘, very quick drawing in ArtRage oils, using thick and thin lines to indicate the framework of the puppet, I left the puppeteers out. X
#bandofsketchers prompt on Thursday was collection. I didn’t know what to do so I decided to sketch my cat ornaments. Bit random but I was trying to simplify them. I just used coloured felt pens and avoided using black outlines.
Draw a repeating pattern (top left) of blue flowers (four petals joined into squares).
Add colours, use an app to mirror the pattern, use another one to distort the pattern of lines, or change hues. Erase some of the changes to get a variation in the pattern.
That’s what I do, start with something basic but slightly complex then change it either by hand or digitally. I’m hoping to use some of these patterns for my Final Major project at college.
1 in 5 teenagers experiment with art….I don’t know who created it, but I love it!
I shared this meme three years ago on Facebook because it spoke to me. Art is so important to the world. You need art to design things, to have an idea of what clothes, cars, white goods, trains, homes, workplaces will look like. Cutting funding for the arts hits theatre, performing arts, music, computer aided design, surface pattern, and so many other services that bring income into countries. It’s not just painting and sculpture, printmaking and textiles, ceramics and surface pattern. Artists and designers help support the world. Next time you use a plate to eat off, cutlery to eat with, use a table to sit at, wear clothes that fit you and are not grey tubes of rough cloth, then remember art helps to design out world.
My studio, I’m still nervous because of the delta variant of covid to go back into it. I need to paint but I’ve got that feeling that I’m on a knife edge, I don’t know what to do? It’s strange, I’m spending the money but for almost two years now I have felt very worried. Maybe I need some talking therapy, everything is getting too much….
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was clothing. I decided to design a tee-shirt. Black and white and then coloured with watercolour pencils. I guess it could be printed.
