Sleep, I need it!

I had a shocking night last night. The pain in my leg means it’s hard to get comfortable. I can’t lie flat and if I lie on my side I have to put my legs on a footstool with pillows on it. I sometimes can’t get the levels right, so either my legs are too low and the edge of the settee digs in my thighs. The other way means my legs are too high and my knees feel twisted. I really, really, just want to get upstairs to bed. My shocked cat 🙀 plant holder shows what I think!

Cold day

Wet and cold today. The sort of day to wear layers to keep warm. Gas prices are at an all time high and the cost to consumers is ser to rise.

Last night I slept on the settee again because of my leg, and despite trying to keep warm with a housecoat and a dressing gown on, I ended up putting a pair of trousers on! I also used a bath sheet to go over the top of me. I miss my warm duvet. I’m not putting the heating on until we get temperatures below 0°. Celsius.

Ouch

Fed up with waiting for my pulled calf muscle to mend. I was trying to get my steps in, inside the house but I’ve had to give that up, it hurt too much. I’m trying to keep moving as much as I can. I still can’t climb upstairs or get in the bath for a shower. I’m taking pain killers and the painkilling gel I got from the doctors but am sleeping badly on the settee. Hubby has been so helpful and caring. I just want to be mobile again. Got to take the cat to the vets again on Friday. Last week a taxi didn’t turn up so I drove us there in second gear! I hope I don’t have to do that again. I’m going to be alright and people have helped.

I wish I knew how long this was going to take. I didn’t actually have a doctors appointment, I just told the receptionist what I’d done and then she rang back and told me there was a prescription waiting for me at the pharmacy. I am a bit tired and fed up.

Fridge Freezer

We’ve had a bad couple of months. I’m expecting the fridge freezer to break soon, it keeps filling up with water in the chiller compartment and the freezer gets too cold. Then the bearings in it make loud rattling and creaking noises….

Other things have happened. The cat going missing and being injured, and me pulling my calf muscle. Family and friends have had problems too. The pandemic has hit their incomes. They are working hard against almost impossible conditions. I don’t know what will happen, I just want things to be better for everyone, not just those closest to me.

I would help many people if I could. Love to you all…

The weather turns

Rain, then more rain, followed by sunshine and showers. More rain due. Mists and drizzle. Cold showers. Heavy showers travel up the country. From south to north, west to east. Scudding across the sky. Clouds caught on a strong wind. Billowing, blousy, heavy, dark grey. Moving faster than waking pace, shadows flit across the ground. Leaving puddles of shade on the scorched pavements. Dry September has become wet September. Summer has become Autumn. Growth to decay. Age after youth.

I still love this meme

1 in 5 teenagers experiment with art….I don’t know who created it, but I love it!

I shared this meme three years ago on Facebook because it spoke to me. Art is so important to the world. You need art to design things, to have an idea of what clothes, cars, white goods, trains, homes, workplaces will look like. Cutting funding for the arts hits theatre, performing arts, music, computer aided design, surface pattern, and so many other services that bring income into countries. It’s not just painting and sculpture, printmaking and textiles, ceramics and surface pattern. Artists and designers help support the world. Next time you use a plate to eat off, cutlery to eat with, use a table to sit at, wear clothes that fit you and are not grey tubes of rough cloth, then remember art helps to design out world.

Cat news

He’s much better! His chest had to be shaved so the vets could take a blood test, but his kidneys are OK now. The vets also created a serum from his blood that is usdd as an eyedrop. The white blood cells in it help him absorb medication to help heal the ulcers in his eye. His mouth has healed and the damage they thought was a lesion was a burn that was probably caused by whatever toxic substance that he had got on his fur.

I’m so happy that he’s recovering, the vets are pleased with his progress. He isn’t let out although he has snuck out a couple of times. He will get some freedom when he is fully well.

Moving less

Steps… The last few days I’ve kept my phone with me and measured how far I walked throughout the day. Over the week since I pulled my calf muscle I have stumbled and ambled about and managed to walk around five thousand steps a day… Not today. I’ve had more pain in my leg and I was so tired I fell asleep for the first time properly in a week. I didn’t fully wale up fully at about 1pm today.

Being injured is a bit like house arrest. No images to take photos of. No sunsets, if I hadn’t been doodling I would not have any art to show. I’ve got things to do but I can’t. I was going to go to a portrait workshop today but I didn’t dare risk it. There is a problem with petrol supplies and it’s affecting all transport so I might not have been able to get a taxi.

So, life continues to be painful but hopefully things will get better soon. X

I’m still aching

When you pull a muscle don’t expect it to heal overnight. You can expect discomfort for several days or a few weeks. You start doing things, then, ouch, you over stretch or twist or lift your foot or knee up a little too quickly and that band of pain clamps on your leg again.

Don’t expect to sleep well. If you can’t get upstairs you could be limited to sleeping in an armchair or on a settee or sofa. My cats are most disgruntled that I’m sleeping in their warm spot.

Don’t expect to be able to do the shopping. If a friend helps that’s a godsend. If your partner does it, we’ll don’t expect what’s on the list. As long as he’s happy…. In any case it will be all over soon. My patience has been stretched to a twanging, tight rope, ready to snap!
