Orange

Today’s prompt for band of sketchers was the colour orange. I gathered a group of things together and used permanent markers to draw it in. I tried to colour the areas without drawing it out first.

Orange is a peculiar colour, some people identify reds as orange, and orange as yellow. Everyone has different eyesight and abilities to differentiate colours. I imagine someone with colour-blindness would just see muddy browns?

Yesterday’s prompt, post.

This is the drawing I did today for yesterdays band-of-sketchers prompt, post.

Was thinking of drawing a pile of paperwork and envelopes but decided to draw today’s post. I put it back into the letterbox so I could make it look more interesting. I’m glad I got a gold pen to draw the door furnishings.

Tomorrow is October and there will be more prompts to draw.

tired out

people walking

That’s not what I’ve been doing this last week, in fact almost the exact opposite! I think I have realised what has been wrong with me. A bout of tonsillitis. It’s tired me out, I feel washed out and slightly dizzy. Today I actually left the house and did some shopping. I needed to get some watercolour paper and new drawing pens. I’ve been meaning to do it for a week. I had to get my hubby to come along to help me carry things and ended up spending far too much on some plants for the winter months in the garden. I also haven’t done much of my college work and can see it spiralling away from me. Will I catch up? seriously I need to be better now. I cant afford to get too behind with the course work.

life! sometimes it sucks.

Why sketch?

I’m drawing at home with a little group called band of sketchers on Facebook. It’s an offshoot of urban sketchers and it means that I draw at home every couple of days. I avoid going out much these days as I want to avoid coming into contact with people.
One day I will feel better, but for now I’m hiding in my little shell and avoiding coughs and sneezes.

I have enjoyed keeping my drawing skills up. A lot of the sketches are done really fast, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. Our small group are challenging each other to learn new techniques and improving our observation skills.

I love sketching

Just found this from June 2019,i was out sketching with #uskstoke at the national urban sketchers meeting in Stoke-on-Trent. We were due to meet in Leeds this year, but of course it was cancelled. This is a drawing of the Arnold Bennett sculpture in Hanley. This is the city centre of Stoke-on-Trent. I think I must have spent quite a while drawing it. Oh come back 2019!

Window, band of sketchers prompt.

View through the window, from our living room. Our TV is at the bottom of the page. We have a pottery (Portmeirion) opposite where we live. They do have some ground that they garden, but they used to have roses scrambling all up the building. Sadly some of these have recently been cut back so the view is a bit less colourful now. Higher up the hill they are still there, still in flower. This is in a small sketchbook and is drawn with felt pens, some permanent markers a few coloured pencils and a thin black ink pen. The image on the TV is grey because we were watching a black and white film.

Cat on a bag

Why do cats like sitting and or lying on things? This is a blue carrier bag with a couple of fish on it saying save our seas, I think he just likes it because its soft. He also likes the washing basket, my rucksack, a cardboard box or two, the arm of the settee, and especially my hubby’s clothes when he’s got undressed ready for bed. The cat sleeps wherever he wants.

Sketch

ArtRage oils sketch, edited in Sketch app. 2019. Digital drawing.

I like editing things in one application and then running it through one or two more. In a similar way to using different filters on Photoshop.

I have used lots of different apps over the years but I don’t always remember what I did in each of them which is why they look different each time. I want to find the best selection of drawing tools that I can. I hope they look OK.
