And the moon landed on his head….

One of my Christmas presents was a night light, about 18 inches in diameter that is based on the moon. It lights up as a full moon but you can also set it to gently run through phases like the real moon with a remote control.

Last night I couldn’t sleep. The nightlight gives enough light, if you sit up in bed, to read a book by. So about six am I got the novel I’m reading out and read for about twenty minutes. Then I lay down to try and sleep. I reached up to turn out the light with the little switch at the base of it. Oops! I pushed too hard, the large plastic domed moon slid off the little nail it was loosely hooked on, it slid sideways as I tried to grab it, and bump! Hit my hubby on the head. He was fast asleep but shouted out wha? Then fell back to sleep. This morning after hooking the moon back up, I asked him if he remembered being hit by the moon. He replied he wondered what had happened? I said the Moon fell on him!

Blue Thumb

One of the hazards of painting is getting covered in paint! I stuck my thumb in my pallette and splodge, all over my thumb. Luckily I didn’t get any on my clothes! I can wash acrylic off my hands, but once it’s dried it’s impossible to get out of your top or trousers. Oil paint can sometimes be removed as it’s slow drying and you can use thinners to remove it, but once acrylic is dry it’s solid like plastic. You might be able to peel a bit off but it gets in between the fibers and sticks. Anyway, I love this colour blue. Ultramarine? Not sure….

Flytipping update?

Our alleyway is blocked off by this pile of rubbish that a builder has moved off his land. I have reported it to my council a few times over the last few weeks. I haven’t chased it up as much as I could because of my sisters death. I hope it will be moved soon as it is preventing my neighbours access to the back of their properties. I think it’s disgusting that someone can just tip this and not face some form of action. Apparently the flats he has been working on are due to be shown on a TV housing auction show! Perhaps if he is paid an appearance fee he can use it to pay to clear up his mess!

Random

Random design using a bath back scrubber as a starting point. I think it looks a bit like sea urchins with little feelers sticking out. Then again, it could be the inside of an alien spacecraft, or a sound deadening surface? Imagine this created in a 3d printer. What material, soft or hard, would it be made of? I could add paint to its surface to create a print, or use it to hold plant roots in… Imagination is fun.

Mind/brain

A sleepless night and suddenly I had a brainwave for this one! It’s fragile, full of fuzzing thoughts and it can’t settle down. Collage with offcuts, parcel tape, nail varnish, black ink and felt pens. Sundays prompt was brain/mind for #bandofsketchers

I really don’t know what was going on. The inspiration? A little plastic bag with pink zigzag stripes and a book on human biology I got when I was at school!

Use transparent PET!

PET is the type of plastic that is used for plastic bottles! The clear, transparent stuff can be broken down and used again. The trouble is when plastic is coloured, it can’t be recycled. It adds more to the massive waste of plastic that is causing pollution in the world. So…. Don’t buy white or coloured plastic drink bottles! If you have to buy them, buy transparent only. X

Home made bird feeder

I tried to make a bird feeder out of a plastic milk carton rather than just throwing it away. I usually have my milk delivered in glass bottles but occasionally when I run out I resort to getting a plastic carton.

I cut three holes in the side, and because seed would just fall out if it was vertical, I turned it horizontal. Also I made the holes big enough so a bird would not get its head stuck, made a little platform by bending the bottom edge down, and cut off any sharp edges.

Partly filled with Niger seed. Hopefully this will work, the handle was pushed over a vertical branch. Will check and make sure birds are OK…..

Going 3d

Today’s challenge on #MendNotTrend (day four) was to create something three dimensional out of string or plastic and perhaps draw it or draw the idea of what it would look like if you didn’t have anything to work with. So I cut a carrier bag in half (down the front, then down the back) leaving it uncut at the bottom. I twisted both sides by the handles to make a plastic ‘rope’. I then looped it through one handle and looped into the loop over and over, finishing at the other handle loop…. See photos. I finally drew the outcome…

World, wrapped…

World wrapped… Up

In a plastic bag,

Or bubble wrap….

World wrapped in packaging

In yards or meters of soft, slithering, veils.

Plastic permiates

Plastic stifles

Plastic swallowed

Blocking guts

Strangling

Plastic smothers

It won’t go away.

Like an infinite being

Never-ending nightmare.

Permanent

Plastic…..
