Digital life drawing

I took my tablet to a life drawing class a couple of years ago. I wanted to see what a digital drawing would look like. I chose to use a program called sketcher free that gives you different texture tools, like fur long fur, ribbon, chrome, and other pens. You can chose the background colour. You can also use a colour slider and picker and a change in pen sizes. It’s a bit complicated to choose a pen shape that translates to the drawing well. There are other programs that are simpler to use but I liked (as usual) the patterned effect I created.

A doodled mandala and adjustments in photodirector to add lens flare and playing with the drawn lines (gold and silver pens on black cartridge paper).

I wanted to cover the paper in patterns, it started out as a reasonably balanced pattern at the centre, but I soon went off on a tangent!

I drew some curves and spirals then started adding doodles, including a couple of birds and a face. I started using a fine line black ink pen, but it was running out so I turned instead to a black calligraphy pen. When I’d finished I decided to add colour. That helped accentuate some of the shapes. I could do more but decided to leave it. I called it phoenix because a bird seemed to ge appearing from the background.

A single leaf, veins in the shape of a tree, trunk and branches, funny how one pattern can mimic another. Like swirls of cream in coffee and galaxies out in space. Fractal clouds with patterns repeating. Always good to look closely at things.

I ddo like creating patterns, so I used the drawing I did earlier to create something different. Bits of it remind me of Tiffany glass or stained glass pieces. If you rotate and twist the images you get something new each time… I will be using up the rest of my nail varnishes to create new images.

Used layout app to create this image of pink busy lizzies and a metal plant support. I just have fun playing with images. The pink and green are nicely contrasting colours, the smooth surface of the plant support adds more interest. The symmetry of the mirrored leaves and stems complete impossible and intricate patterns. They are natural and unnatural in equal amounts.

Creating strange images. Floating objects. Buildings not held down by gravity. Defying the laws of physics, playful, a rocket, chimney, identified flying object. Old tiles and bricks badly laid. Clouds cracking to let the blue sky through. Can I see faces or animals in them. Your choice.

Taken from tiny paintings, duplicated and made into a grid. A couple of years old, I think it is probably too jazzy for today’s minimalist people.

I call it having fun with blue and orange. Not much else to say really.

Tree and faces

Untitled76_001 IMG_20200120_185123 I decided to draw a tree with a pinkish sunset in the background. I used the ArtRage oils app.then I decided to see what it would look like if I duplicated and mirrored it. Now I can see a 🙀 cat! And various other patterns…. I’m one of those people who see faces in anything. I think I heard people saying that you can be employed to look for faces in patterns so they can alter designs and remove them. I could do that job! Art and Design seems full of them…. X

1993 painting

I’ve got this four foot by five foot oil painting that I did in 1993 on the living room wall. It’s just behind where I sit, and sometimes I knock onto it, so I’m occasionally worried that the string it’s on will break and it will come crashing down!

Anyway, you can tell I love cats. The big one was on the front of a magazine if I remember. The small one in the corner, playing with the wool, was ours. We had her for about nineteen years. I just found the photos on my Facebook memories page. The figure is me and I’ve painted a baggy jumper I had. I love patterns and painted the wallpaper pattern. This was my studio before we moved to out current home.
