Calligraphy

This was something I did in a workshop a couple of years ago. We were taught by a lovely man from Egypt who showed us how to do some Arabic letters, we each uses a stick with a knib carved in the end. As when you write the alphabet as a child we practiced writing letters over and over again. Then we could do what we wanted so I wrote my name but decided to decorate it with flowers and cats. I used it for ages on a Web page. It’s good to find old things that gave you pleasure in the past. X

Sleepy

I keep nodding off, falling asleep, almost in mid sentence. Stayed up too late for the last three nights. Going to bed at three or four am. I was trying to get my coursework done, but I’ve fallen into a bad habit of going to bed late and getting up late. I keep having interesting dreams, in them I’m at university walking through rooms and lecture halls, I’m doing a distance learning course, but clearly I want to go there. Can barely keep my eyes open. I keep having to check my grammar and writing. I nod off as I’m typing sometimes. Wake up to gibberish. V V g g kg v”fcggffvb or something like that.

I might try and write something else. But what? What do people want to hear? I don’t know. Brains running on empty….

Abstract pots

Turn a photo into an abstract by mirroring it in the Layout app run through Instagram and Facebook. If you take a photo that is a bit lopsided then when you multiply the image you get interesting patterns. You can rotate the pictures so you can get a variety of different patterns.

Experiment and see what suits you. If you see odd patterns that can be interesting. Branches enclosing a flower. In this case mirrored handles on the pot makes for an unusual ceramic object when all it is, is a jug. Ariel roots and leaves from my orchid plants frame the resulting pattern.

Weird plant photos

A plant on the kitchen windowledge is duplicated in the Layout app. The result seems to be a strange weird alien face, but it’s just a Christmas canvas plant with spiky leaves. This is what I do when I can’t see and go down for a coffee in the early morning!

Here’s another one. They really do create impossibly strange weird structures.

Anyway, only got four hours sleep. Might treat myself to a nap!

The other one

Our boy cat having a stretch in the bathroom. He had been ill but he’s a lot better now. For the moment he sleeps in the bathroom on a towel because it’s a lot cooler in there. Not as much sun getting in. But sometimes I will find him in a patch of sunlight, curled up and warming himself. Cats have characters. He’s chilled. Our female cat is lively and loves chasing things. Sometimes they chase each other. A mad half hour. Then peace descends again.

My manifesto at the moment

_20200817_140747

It’s quite simple at the moment. I think college want something a bit more thought out though? Ideas anyone?

I know I left off world peace. Please forgive me. It’s a bit tongue in cheek (humorous) but why not. With everything so grim at the moment.

Anyway back to typing things up. Later x

Monday limerick

FB_IMG_1586648520730

On Mondays we write limericks at Esther Chiltons blog here.

Her prompt for us today was Zoom.

I decided to zoom past the obvious usage of the world and wrote this:

The telescope was set on Zoom
He could see the man in the moon
I’ll get in my rocket
With some cheese in my pocket
To feed old moony real soon!

Mirrored cat

Playing with photo editing in my layout app. When you have a subject like a cat you can duplicate and mirror the image and make something interesting happen. Choose to mirror half the face and you end up with a strong stare. I could have made her nose look more natural, but I prefer the odd symmetry this photo gives me.

Tableau

DSC_2993

For some reason this little tableau of ornaments reminds me of a zombie movie, or an old episode of Buffy the Vampire slayer. Just random shocked people, a little devil, an owl a Thai figure and a bowl made of buttons. It’s strange what can attract your eye. It’s the colours in it that make it interesting too.
