Sounds

Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was sounds. Trying to work out how to draw this. Sounds can be acoustic or geographical. For instance the sound of music, or Plymouth Sound, an inlet into the sea. I decided to draw a combination of sound waves disturbing the surface of water as we don’t live anywhere near a sound. Felt pen drawing.

Blue crab

Finished painting

I said I would post a picture of this finished painting of a blue crab when it had got to its new home. I tried to make it accurate but its quite hard to work out the fine details. I also brightened the blues and toned down the sandy background. I made the area behind the crab softer so that it goes backwards out of focus and added more detail to the foreground. It’s new owner is pleased with it I think.

Mosaic

Digital mosaic of a coastline. I was watching a programme about Nasa’s Perseverence Rover on Mars tonight and saw that it is due to try and climb the delta into a crater on Mars called Jezero crater. It struck me how the martian landscape is very similar to ours. There was water on the planet a few billion years ago which filled the crater. This could be one of the places where they find evidence of life on Mars.

Ten year Cat

Digital drawing I did ten years ago. I’m not sure which website I drew it at. I think there are still some sites that allow you to draw independently, but most seem to be limited in what you can do, like editing photos or colouring in areas, or making patterns. I looked online but the types of site seem to be quite limited. If you know of any site that I can draw on let me know? (I’m also mainly drawing on my phone so the memory I can use is limited).

Histology.

I don’t know what I was doing but this emerged today. It looks like a slice through some tissue. Maybe animal or vegetable. I kept doing lay ers of pattern. A line of the drawing had to stick to rules that I set for myself, like a curve every few centimeters or a wobbly line, so that some areas are lighter and less marked than others. It actually drawn on the back of the bird doodle I drew yesterday. I could see where the ink was showing through, but then I decided to extend it further. This was the result.

Horses from splodges

Horses are wonderful animals. They have such amazing characters. When I tried to find something in the matching splodges to the previous post I almost immediately found the large horse head. Then the other two emerged from the patterns. I just needed to add some white, green and yellow to differentiate between them.

Splodges into heads

Paint splodges turned into heads. First I saw an eye, then a nose. An open mouth and teeth. I just like looking for things. I was always good at spotting things on those spot the difference cartoons in magazines and newspapers.

I’m good at navigation too and I think that’s the same kind of thing- pattern recognition. I think it’s something humans can practice. Maybe digital and social media is a bad thing if it does not help you interact with the real world.

Digitally altered

I am not listing what I did to this, I just like the end result! Computer programs and apps can do lots to your work to change and distort, add or reduce colour, duplicate or delete. Its fun and it’s great to experiment, at least that’s what I think. Splodges turn into complex patterns. Acrylic paint, felt pens and megabits!
