Playing with pattern again, four verticals mirrored. Based on a petunia in a hanging basket. Symmetry is such a wonderful thing. The purple and green work well together. I’m interested in the structure that has been created by duplicating the shapes. These could also be strange alien creatures…. Or even squids!
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was energy. I decided to draw lightning as we are expecting thunder storms later in the week. Lightning is much more complicated when you see a photo of it. Not the single lightning bolt that you get in cartoons or emojis. This is from memory.
What do you see? I see a butterfly, a bears head, an owl, a rabbit head, moths on either side, a goats face, probably other animals and things too…. I met someone yesterday who has the same thing going on with their mind.
I used to have a shower curtain covered in an overlapping bubble pattern. I swear I could make cartoon characters out of them. There were four people I made out of the bubbles, a mum, dad son and daughter. I even think I could sometimes see a bubble dog.
As a child I could see things in the patterns on our wallpaper. I imagined fairies and elves with leaves making their limbs and hair. When I watched rain drops on the cobbled stones in our back yard I also saw fairies, or ballerinas in tutu’s. I have a strange imagination.
Just a doodle in ArtRage oils. Playing with the oily affect of the bushes in the app. Then adjusted in Instagram. Finger painting and playing is fun. I liked making the colours bright, like printed silk or satin. Just simple lines and dots, but I think it’s quite effective. I enjoyed creating it. I could see this printed on a greetings card. X
I could play with this for ages. This time the earth had become a blazing sunset or a moon being clouds. The tree is from stencils I have on my phone. The rays could be eminating from the moon or Sun. Maybe I should stop now….
Could it be a cosmic collision that eradicates humanity? Like the dinosaurs millions of years ago. But we seem so good at surviving as a species I doubt we could all be killed off. I’m in a performance soon about how humans have destroyed other species and the environmental destruction we are responsible for.
I added scratches and grunge to this photo in Photodirector, then changed it from colour with a black and white filter on Instagram. I thought of adding text to this. Maybe it would work but it might be a bit twee.
Tuesdays #bandofsketchers prompt was Cattle. I looked for something to draw. I did a quick felt pen sketch of a cow. I don’t know the type it is. Maybe a Guernsey cow? Just drawn from the Internet. Took about fifteen minutes. I think it’s probably lying down to chew the cud. I was always told when I was a child that they lie down before rain. I’m not convinced that’s true!
Thank you Sharon Crisp for sending me a photo of my Burslem Angel mural (lost in the fire in the Leopard Hotel in Burslem). It was painted in emulsion directly into a framed area on the wall that had originally been filled with flock wallpaper. I had asked if anyone had images of my murals a few months ago. This one was missing as was on of a woman standing outside a pottery with a row of bottle kilns. I’m really pleased to see this again.
I think it’s interesting how the clouds in the background look like smoke or flames.
Watch out, there’s a Leopard about. Take a walk in the wild side of Stoke, down a side street, off the main road. Strong colours against a black background. Stars shine out from the painting. I want to find out if this is finished or whether there is more to come. What is it painted in? Will it be permanent or will it flake and fade in a few years. It’s painted directly onto the brick so I imagine it will weather and peel.
Never hear Tawny owls anymore. We used to have a couple of them up the hill. The males make one sound, Too-wit, then the female answers Too-woo! It’s so evocative of spring, but it doesn’t happen anymore. So many birds are dissappearing, but men don’t seem bothered, they’d rather fight wars. As someone recently said instead of spending money to go to Mars maybe they should spend it on planting forests, or supporting the environment. Endangered means possible extinction. Let’s do something about it.
