I’m the king of the castle..

sketch-1573732727679

My cats play and chase each other every few hours. It starts with the female cat lying down in front of the male cat, he starts to groom her and they start squabbling, she fends him off as he tries to nip her. They then start chasing each other, sneaking up and Pouncing at each other, racing round the room and up the stairs.

Lately it been a game of “I’m the king of the castle, get down you dirty rascal…” a game that children used to play where you would stand on top of a pile of dirt or maybe rocks and your friends would try and push you off and capture the high ground.

I’ve got a pile of clothes and laundry waiting to go upstairs, but the male cat has taken to sleeping on it. His sister objects and jumps up. A few times she has chased him away, only for him to come back and recapture it! I was going to take a photo of him, but he jumped down so I’ve drawn a cat on it. It does remind me of the game we used to play.

Mug design

_20191113_231619

Take an abstract doodle and reimagine it as a mug design.

I just sketched the black in quickly but I could see this printed on a mug. It’s brightly coloured, a real pop of pattern.

Somehow I’ve got to start getting my art work printed. I think that would be a way forward with my pictures. I’ve had a few enquiries from people recently.

A patch of sunshine

The Sun is shining in through the side window now the trees on the East side of the garden have lost their leaves. The Sun rises further South East in the autumn and winter. Its shining on the ‘great stack’ of knitted toys. They are usually on the setee but I moved them so people can sit on it. Behind is one if our numerous book cases. I would love it if it was neatly stacked, colour coordinated like they are on design shows. But that’s not what a working bookcase looks like! The top shelves are rarely touched and I sometimes find cobwebs up there. I’m sure the ornaments on the top shelf up near the ceiling will be covered in dust. But there is too much art supplies in boxes in front of it…

Disorganised, chaotic, too much stuff. Magpie, collector of ornaments, canvases, paints, visual memorabilia. I’m an artist, I can’t help myself.

Profile

DSC_2335

I need to practice real drawing, I do a lot of digital stuff, and quick sketches but I only tend to do portraits of my hubby. I think I need to start drawing at a life drawing class again. I vaguely know where eyes and noses and mouths fit, it’s just when you are not looking at a person it doesn’t look real. I have a reasonable visual memory, I know, but that doesn’t make me accurate. I always think I could do better…..like this profile for instance, is the chin to big, the mouth too small, the brow too sloping? It’s all down to practice.

Twins

sketch-1573591612724

People seem to think there are only identical twin. Born on usually the same day, unless the Labour is long and continues into the next day. They are from one fertilised egg which splits in two and goes on to form two babies (or in the case of other multiple births, more, for instance triplets). Identical twins might not fully seperate in the womb and can end up being conjoined, that is joined together. Sometimes at the head or the body. It is possible to operate and seperate them if they are not sharing organs. This is not always possible though.

There is another form of twin. Non identical. These are two seperate eggs that are fertilised at the same, or almost the same time. Non identical twins are called fraternal twins. They can be a boy and a girl, a boy and a boy or a girl and a girl. They are brothers and sisters born at the same time, but not exact copies. As they grow up their differences become more apparent. They may be bought up wearing the same clothes…. But they are not necessarily the same shape or size. As with identical twins they may have similar interests or completely different ones.

Life can be interesting, a lot of how we live is often influenced by how we are bought up, not just from our genes. It’s the old nurture verses nature argument.

Grab the moon

sketch-1573581782690

It wasn’t a cloud, but the dark shape was reaching out, obscuring the moon. Something that had eyes, that twinkled in the moonlight. Something that had hands or arms to grab, what? The moon is a quarter of a million miles away. The object must either be close to Earth and not that big, or if it was close enough to capture the Moon then it would be millions of miles across.

Suddenly the light was blotted out. The huge shape turned and fled, the moon was gone. Its gravitational power gone too. Earth, which had its North and South poles tipped away from the vertical by a celestial accident in the past, now started to twist and dip. The planet becoming unstable and dangerous. People could only try to survive, and make signs and march to the chant ‘bring back our moon’. But nothing happened…..

Shopping…

sketch-1573574333056

The sound of disgust in my hubby’s voice as he utters this word. The total hate he has of doing this chore.

What can I do? I’m still sore and hobbling about from falling over on Sunday. I’ve not rested that much, I’ve washed up and cooked food. It’s just I’m still sore. Why doesn’t he understand that I need help? I’m not doing it deliberately. I found a hole in the bathroom door this morning where my head must have hit it! I am struggling to sleep as my side hurts so I’m using pain killing gel. But as I get more mobile I find other bits that hurt.

But shopping? It’s just not a man thing. Or cooking, it’s hard enough to get him to wash up. Antediluvian man!
