Covered in heavy brown varnish
My cats huddled,
Staring at the fire,
Preparing to write letters?
No, just enveloped
In warmth!

Indoor boy cat
Lies and waits
Wary eye turned
Towards the door.
Will outdoor boy
come in?
Eat his food
Drink his milk
Pinch his place
On the couch?
All is quiet
All is well
Sleep kitty,
Dream of toy sheep
If outdoor boy arrives
I will keep him from you.

Talking to a friend about our outdoor cat I explained that he’s generally in our garden which is about the size of two terraced houses and their yards…. There are lots of other cats about that come and go (I fear for the bird population but they have plenty of cover). There’s a shed and a summerhouse, two cat beds and cushions. He’s a big cat, twice the size of my other two, well-groomed. Tidy, but not a dominant cat which is why I think they can integrate…
He comes in and sleeps sometimes but he’d found a space on the settee and now the indoor boy cat sleeps there. I will have to find him a new space, it all seems to be about territory. I also think he gets too hot when we have our heating on. He will eat, then mooch over to the back door and yowl to be let out… Such is the life of an abandoned out door cat, we want to love and care for him, but he hadn’t made his mind up fully about us.

Looking out of the window this afternoon, the sun came out and the sky cleared. Much more sparkle than my drawing first thing in the morning. Soon the view will clear further when the trees shed the rest of their leaves. Mind you, the rate the ivy is climbing up the wall the window might be covered over!
Tonight is meant to be very cold and the outdoor cat won’t come in, he’s busy running round the garden, but he’s got a warm bed in the shed. Tomorrow it’s due to rain again… No more blue sky….

Sleeping cat (I can’t quite see the title), lying on a stripey cover with gold leaf patches. Another small 6×6 painting, done a couple of years ago. Acrylic on canvas.
My cat is lying on the settee now in almost the exact same position. It’s like he’s time travelled from there to here….

On the windowledge. Photo of one of my Christmas cactuses already in flower (I think because the light levels have been low) and a metal cat doorstop which I prefer to be able to see rather than using it to prop a door open. I’ve also got cactus cuttings growing in water, must pot them on….

It’s happening, the two boy cats tolerate each other enough to share the settee!
The time we have taken gradually introducing them over the last few weeks. Indoor and outdoor cat are within a meter of each other…. They might be at either end of the settee but the outdoor cat had to jump up past the indoor one. No hissing, no spitting! Great

Patient cat patiently sits
Waiting for the day
His cone of shame
Will be removed
When he is better
Recovered
Relieved
Then
With one bound
He will be
Free!

Someone asked me whether I was superstitious of the day. I’m not really but I thought I would write a response :
I’m staying indoors in case a black cat crosses my path, climbs up a ladder, meets a magpie, has a fight, knocks over the ladder, which lands on a crack in the pavement, breaking the wing mirror on my car. The ladder also breaks my window and snaps the stop cock on the way down……
Now where did put my rain coat incase we have a flood….?

A few sketches of two of our cats. Cats move and I found it difficult to capture the ones where they were moving. Especially with black fur to draw, some of the patches are not the right shape or position, but if you are not aware of the image of the original cat it’s not as important? They are very sketchy..
