My secret garden (mirrored)

By duplicating and flipping one side of the couple of photos I ended up with an interesting structure (in reality next doors small extension bathroom). The hanging baskets and pots pop with green and bright flowers. As they grow and bloom I will post more pictures (and include more if the rain stops!). Summer is here so they should take up more space. Gardening and rain, a typical British summer.

A rhyme remembered

It’s been raining here for days! From when I happened to say to a friend at the end of April, ‘we really need some rain, the farmers are worried they haven’t had enough for their crops’.

Be wary of what you ask for.

Now I remember the old rhyme we used to say when it was always raining ‘rain, rain, go away, come again another day’! It has poured down so hard today you can hear it thrumming on the kitchen roof and battering the windows… Enough! I want to go for a walk!

In and out

Some cats must be related to Yo-Yos! In, out, then in again, a bit of food, out, in again. A wash, sleep. Now our outdoor cat has sussed how to get in through the cat flap he’s busy using it..

But it’s raining, so each time he comes in he’s as wet as an otter! There is shelter in the shed or under the bicycle covers, but he likes mooching. No doubt he will be back in soon…

Reflections

I love using mirroring to change how a photo looks. You can do it vertically (top), horizontally (middle) or both (bottom).

I called them ‘Westport mirrored’, ‘I see frogs’ and ‘stained glass westport’.

I used the layout app which can be used to post images to both Facebook and Instagram. I’m on Instagram @mallabandbrown or #mallabandbrown (I never know which it is!) if you want to see more of my art.

Trees in winter

Reflections again, this time of trees along the river Trent a few weeks ago. Walking in the rain, trying to avoid the fifty yard long puddles on the paths. Stepping through muddy grass with shoes sinking into the earth. It was wet! Subtle hints of green in the bushes that was knocked back when the temperatures dropped and the snow fell. A whole section of the newly restored river bank washed away and the new housing estate on the flood plain is threatened. Why build on the flood plain anyway? Money!

Walking in the rain

Oh it was wet today! My feet were wet, my coat soaked, my glasses were both steamed up and splashed with rain. My hubby had a body warmer and his old tweed coat on. But we had a good walk. I bought myself valentine flowers and him a packet of chocolate biscuits. Then we had a Thai takeaway for our evening meal… Not the most romantic day, but comfortable…

Wall

Damp old farm wall, just down the road. Ideal for a housing development apparently. I really want it to be restored. To keep the building. To keep the heritage of the little village it is in.

Most of all though, I love the patina of it. How wet must it be on the other side to create this tide mark of water and lichen, moss and salts. I love it, I might paint it!

painting of wet walk

Todays #bandofsketchersprompt was signage, and as I was walking home after a long, wet, cold walk I decided to take a photo with my very soggy camera, of the view. Since my college course has me doing observational images every day this fit the bill for both prompts.

Felt pens for the signs, a bit of underdrawing with a felt pen thats running out, and watercolours to give it a “wet” feel.
