Walking…..

I never thought I would be doing this challenge. I used to be scared of walking. If I walked a couple of hundred yards I would congratulate myself! I’m so glad I joined in and I’ve already got through 25% of it!

I used to be fit. I could cycle for miles, but after an accident where I was injured I eventually got a car. That was my downfall. Its taken over thirty years to realise I can do something about it. Don’t be scared, have a go!

Today’s walk

Weeping Willow outside the Gardeners Retreat pub on our walk today. I took the photo because of the way the wind was blowing its fronds around. The clouds were scurrying across the sky and a pale pink glow was growing on the horizon. It was a warm walk, the rain spitted at the start but then fizzled out and we were walking in a buffering wind. In the end I only walked a short distance, around, 7500 steps, but that’s OK……

Not keeping up

So much to read, do, think about. My blog is suffering, I’m out walking a lot more, and tired out when I get back. So I sit and rest. I can’t keep track. Emails, posts, lectures, reviewing, learning, tired.

Can I do it? Can I keep going? I’m hoping as I get fitter I will be able to catch up and do more. Don’t ask me to add to my burden, I don’t think I can take on more. Had my first good night’s sleep for a month last night, but I’m still tired.

Insomnia

I can’t sleep, so I don’t dream, on the hour every hour, I look at the alarm clock. Tick tock, tick tock. Put the radio on low sometimes. The murmur might send me to sleep, but then it wakes me up if there is serious news or something interesting. Having a cat move in doesn’t help. He wants to go out at odd times. Yowl, miaow, he wakes me up. So another night goes by…

Showery skies

There was a very heavy rain shower just before my friend and I went out for our afternoon walk. I always wear a mask when I walk even though we are socially distanced. Today I was glad I did as a couple of people (without masks), were coughing as they walked past. My friend noticed I was holding my breath and I explained that I’m always wary of people coughing, or jogging and I will hold my breath for a few seconds. I even notice if the wind is blowing from the cougher towards me.

On a nicer note, the skies were washed clean by the rain and wind. I tried to take photos of the sunset, and although it appeared quite bright the colours really show up in my pictures. X

Frozen fountain

When you go for a walk and the local fountain looks like this, you know it’s cold!

It’s taken me four hours since I got in to stop shivering. I’m sitting here with a tee shirt, jumper, thick trousers, a fleece and a dressing gown. My hands are still chilly.

I’ve got a few more photos to post, but only after something hot to eat and drink….

Trees at sundown

I went for a damp walk this evening. I like walking near trees, down little lanes, watching the sky change as the sun set behind the clouds. Walking past evergreen Holly it’s branches laden with dark spikey leaves. Past old Ash trees with their festoon of Ash key seedlings. Using an umbrella as a walking stick as I walked down our steep hill. My toes are throbbing and I only did just over 6000 steps today but I’m on 6/100 days so just 6% done so far!
