How did I (you) do that? Thank you.

sketch-1593559635409

I don’t know how it happened. I just mumble on here and sometimes people like what I say.

Maybe I should assess how I write things. I’m sure my grammar isn’t correct. How is it that people are following this? I don’t think I’m particularly profound. I have some strong feelings, that people should be treated fairly and equally.

I talk about my art and how I create it. I’m not pushing sales of my paintings. If someone is interested they can get in touch. I like talking about science and nature and the environment. I try and keep informed but I’m not an expert.

What else? I’m getting older and hope I can use my experiences to help people if I can.

I really like trying to write poetry. I wrote something called ‘unexpected item in the bagging area’ a comic poem about my experiences of using a self checkout at the supermarket. That was my first poem here a couple of years ago and it kickstarted my writing.

I occasionally write short stories here. I tried writing to photo prompts but I struggled with keeping to the image. I also write short, five word, challenges where you have to include a word, FOOL for instance. Also the challenge of writing limericks, working out how to rhyme things.

I also love sharing my art. Lots of funny little pictures, or murals, or acrylics on canvas or even urban sketchers and other art groups that I’m interested in. I do a lot of digital stuff and I’m on a college course on illustration.

So thank you for following me. I can’t promise to be interesting and exciting all the time. I think I’m learning to write and blog, and your help is much appreciated.

Swinging sanity book has arrived

My friends poetry collection has arrived via Amazon. I’d been told not to expect it yet, but I got it this afternoon.. . Its by N. F. Mirza. A woman I met through WordPress. Her account here is #or @ stoneronarollercoaster. (I don’t know how it works).

She supports and encourages people and is a very interesting person. Quote “a quintessential weirdo, who was supposed to be crunching numbers but these days crunches words, colours and charcoal instead.”

Memories again.

sketch-1584292722034

I was thinking of rhymes I learnt as a child, when into my inbox popped an email. It was a pingback saying that someone had shared the poem “the North Wind shall blow”. It had a copyright sign, but it’s not by me! I don’t know it’s origins, but it’s a lovely poem, well crafted, poignant.

Anyway I’ve let them know. In this Internet age, with so much information it is not surprising that things get lost or forgotten. I learned this when I was a child, which is over fifty years ago!

The other ones I remembered today were:

Georgie Porgy pudding and pie,

kissed the girls and made them cry,

when the boys came out to play,

Georgie Porgy ran away.

And :

See saw, Margery Daw

Jenny shall have a new master,

she shall earn but a penny a day,

because she can’t work any faster!

I guess although these will have been written decades, or perhaps centuries ago, they are still relevant today….

White sails

DSC_2219_optimized (2)

White sail, sailing, over the water.

Barely a breath to help you move.

White canvas, taut and stiff

Or billowing softly in the breeze.

Hot sun and morning mist,

A twinkle of ripples follow your wake.

Sails, tall and fair.

Sails standing out across the lake,

Bright against the wooded hill.

Your beacon shines to me.

Gossware falcon

On the gable end of the Falcon Works. Visible from Sturgess Street in Stoke.

I see you, Falcon,

Goss Hawk, swooping.

Air sifting between stone feathers.

Built as a plaque of identity,

Goss ware, pottery, strong and sturdy.

History, trade mark, art, bird.

Bird of prey,

Snatching art from thin air,

Your claws knead the clay….

Helium balloon…

What to do?

If we let you free..

You will drift up..

And up….

Taking your helium high!

High pitched gas.

Into the sky….

Your plastic body

Metallic coloured bag

of odourless atoms..

A death trap for fish

Or other animals

If we release you.

So thanks friend,

We will wait

For your gift to deflate.

Hisssssss….

Then dispose of it.

Responsibly…

Talking

sketch-1553899648998

The world is full of words

Talk is cheap

Grey green gold gossip

Muddy, murky muttering

Sharp staccato shouting.

Pink pretty pouting purring,

Cracked cramped cackles.

Light lilting, laughing lullabies…

Singing or sonorous sound scapes

Violent verbosity

Quiet qualities of queen’s English.

Extravagant evangelising.

Whispered wailing.

Yes words are cheap and cheerful or cheerless.

Owl

FB_IMG_1552484640421

Being owlish I look carefully at things,

I see them from my flying wings.

I hoot with laughter when I hear a joke.

I spy mice and voles at a stroke,

Will my owlish brain outwit you?

Never know what hit you?

I swoop down so soft and quiet

To consume my rodent diet….

My talons and beak are sharp

Winging down over hill and park.

A barn to rest in is all I ask.

A nest to build is my task.

My eggs and chicks they grow fast

Gobble up food, a tasty repast.

Then once they are grown the fledge

And out to the world they emerge.

So this old owl will towoo some more.

To hear the twit of my Amore.
