Conkers

Still llife photo of conkers. Photo taken last year at Bodnant Garden in North Wales last year. What a great trip out that was. We walked round the large garden grounds. Down into the river valley, past huge and ancient trees. Late flowering perennials and bushes. Its a charming place to visit, but be aware it is hilly. Its a National Trust site so its very well maintained. There are small shops trading there, a garden centre and a cafe/restaurant.

Great for a visit when the garden is in full bloom, especially the laburnum walk. You can join the National Trust or pay when you visit. BUT check opening times, it does close in the winter and with the lockdown for the pandemic there will be changes to visiting and probably closures.

Following on from my last post

Each of these photos was put through the photodirector app I use and also Instagram. I do like the effects but only use a few of them. Some of the filters in Photodirector have to be paid for so I limit my use.

What am I trying for? A pleasant abstract distortion. Perhaps a feeling of movement. I might use a couple of filters, and cancel some of them if they are not working. I just enjoy being creative.

Walking

Just a 3 kilometer walk, but only the second since I recovered from tonsillitis. The wind was soughing through the trees. I recorded the sound but I don’t think I can play it on here. I enjoyed the feel of the wind and rain, the dusk came fast and as we extended the walk a little further we did end up getting a bit wet. Got to be wary of wet slippery leaves too. I was tired at the end. My legs were wobbly by the time I got in and had to sit down and rest.

Must do more x

Exterminate

One thing I am missing on TV is Doctor Who. I’m old and I watched the original series back in the 1960’s from behind the settee. The creatures that scared me the most were the Daleks and the Cybermen.

The sets they filmed on were a bit wobbly, but then you suspended disbelief when you were a child, in the same way that some if the special effects on Star Trek were a bit naff with polystyrene rocks….

This photo was a few years ago at a railway station where someone had bought the dalek and a model of the tardis. Strange but true.

Twins?

Christmas a couple of years ago. My friend took this of me taking a photo of my other half… Can you tell which one he is? He’s definitely an eccentric. I think this was round the back of the German Market that was held locally. I’m not sure why the wooden soldier was parked there but it was an interesting object.

This is good because it is black and white, so the details of textures stand out more than they would if it was a coloured photo.

I was cheered by receiving this photo today. It bought back happy memories. I can’t find the photo I took though!

Fruits….

Blackberries, before they are ripe, before the sun ripened them. Turning them juicy and sweet. I thought this image that I’d duplicated and mirrored made them look almost like insect eyes.

There are patterns that seem to replicate each other in the world and the universe. By playing with images you can get some startling effects.

Orchids

This is a duplicated photo of the orchids in my window. I thought they were hard to grow, but they seem to thrive on the neglect they get from me. I generally just give them a bit of water once a week. I think you are supposed to mist them with water and give them orchid food but that doesn’t happen. I did try repotting them but I killed one because I didn’t know they like clear pots so the roots get light. Some of the roots are ariel ones that need to be allowed freedom from the pot. One of my plants has sent out two flower spikes since I got it. I’m hoping it will do it again.

Reflections

I do like odd images that happen as a happy accident. This is our lamp shade reflected in the side window. I think it’s a bit like a floating jellyfish or an emoji? The two dark patches are the eyes and the bright patch the nose. Rather than dismissing it as an error I started playing around with it….

Now it looks like strange eyes and a nose… Sometimes it’s a fun idea to explore and use your mistakes.

Rainbow

After the rain, the rainbow. The base of it was really bright. The rain came down so hard and fast, a river of water came down the hill. The forecast is for possible thunderstorms tomorrow following the arrival of ex hurricane Epsilon in the North Atlantic. There have already been strong winds and the leaves have been flying off the trees. Autumn has arrived with a bang!
