Remembering paintings

IMG_20190729_225908_517

I can’t remember where this is! It may be on a tor on dartmoor or it could be somewhere up high in the Yorkshire dales. I know the figure is a friend of mine, but he’s lived in Devon and Yorkshire so that does not help. Looking at it I’m not even sure of what the stone is. I know it’s been weathered by the wind to created the distinct layers in the stone. I’m not sure the colours are accurate. But I like the photo, there is a feeling of distance and atmosphere. Perhaps I will see it again sometime.

Quick sketches

I was sitting by my stall at a craft fair run by market_@_48 at Spode potbank Hotel today. I realised Stoke Urban Sketchers were there so I decided to ask for a couple of sheets of paper and I managed to draw the view from my stall and then of a singer called merrym’n who was singing songs about stoke-on-trent and his songs were very good.

I will post pictures of the craft fair, there were some very interesting stalls.

Car wing mirror

Went out this morning and someone had kicked off my drivers side wing mirror. I know it was kicked off as that side was next to the pavement. I’d heard a thud outside last night which may have been it happening about 2.30am this morning.

I only noticed it as I was driving away, I looked into my mirror only to see the pillar of the door instead of the road behind me. I have my suspicions as to who did it but I’m not saying who as I don’t want to stir up trouble for myself.

It’s part of life but it is very annoying. Just something else to sort out.

Collapsing hotel

DSC_2277

This poor wrecked old hotel sits forlorn opposite the Burslem school of art. There is also the wedgewood institute built directly opposite the school, but that’s had work done on it to restore it.

It’s good that a few buildings are being preserved, but the old hotel is interesting with its turrets and bay windows. Is it too far gone? Possibly, the roof partly collapsed last week and the road was cordoned off by the police and fire brigade last week. Now wooden boards form a wall round it and it’s ground floor windows, which had been shops, look sad and run down.

Burslem is the mother town, the oldest of the six pottery towns. Its sad to see its magnificent architecture in such decline.

Burslem is all on a slant, I think it’s suffering a lot if subsidence due to either a fault line or mining. A lot of buildings seem to be affected by this. I wonder if anything will be done about it?

Loose Tea

DSC_2266

Just found this sketch in my bag. I was trying to explain to my hubby that we had a metal net type thing, two hemispheres of mesh that close up and clip together to hold the tea in. It’s like an old fashioned tea bag. Maybe this is something people could start using again. It would save on paper and you could put just the right amount of tea in just for you……..

The only trouble is I can’t find the darned thing!

Satsuma

Photo of part of my lunch. I just liked the fruit and peel against the table top pattern. Isn’t it fab that the white lines on the table seem to mirror the segments of the fruit?

Its been a busy day, discussing a mural proposal, then having lunch, then off to a trumpet lesson ( the first for months) I’m learning a part  of the new world symphony. Now I’ve got to get ready to go out for the opening of the three counties open exhibition as I managed to get a painting into it. I’m pleased because it’s chosen from submissions from artists in Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire and is on  at Burslem School of Art, Queen Street, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent for a month. …

So a bit of a boring fruit based blog… Sorry!

We do not see ourselves

We don’t see ourselves as others see us. Mother, father, sister, brother, everybody has an opinion of you, but no one can know what’s in your heart.

Imagine a world of telepathy where everyone can read your mind at will. They can see your triumphs and tragedies from your perspective. But most people’s minds probably don’t have clear concise thoughts. If their mind is anything like mine it can be full of confidence at one minute and then dispair the next. You don’t get a blueprint when you are born of how to think. We all need to cut each other a little slack sometimes.
