Forth bridge

A bit wobbly…

Ten minute sketch while watching #skylandscapeartistoftheyear. It was of the Forth Bridge, although one of the towers looks like its collapsing! One of the reasons it was quick was because I wanted to watch the show and see what the artists did. You can’t do that while you are drawing. I enjoyed it very much.

Join a choir?

We sing all sorts of music in the choirs I am in. We learn by repetition rather than using sheet music. We’ve been learning Bulgarian songs, and ones by Robert Burns recently. Also sea shanties. There is one choir called Clay Chorus that  has men and women singing in it and Loud Mouth Women which is a women only choir. Both are usually unaccompanied (a capella), although sometimes we have a guitar or ukulele to help with the tune. There are no auditions, people just come along and try. Many stay with the choirs for years. It was such a shame when we couldn’t meet because od Covid. Now all of us are vaccinated, we wear masks when we move around. The windows are open and we keep the room well ventilated. We do lateral flow tests to be safe. It’s fun to sing again.

Indian sweets

I got some vegetable samosas today and was very tempted to buy some Indian sweets. I’m not sure how they are made but they are very nice to look at. I had some a few years ago and enjoyed them very much, but I keep my sugar consumption low so I just asked if I could take a photo. Our sketching prompt today is sweets so you might see a blog with a sketch of them later on.

Trifle and curling, a quiet afternoon

Have you ever seen curling? Curling 🥌 is a game on ice where two teams take it in turn to slide curling stones on an icy surface along to a target 🎯 area. The closest to the centre (button) wins its a game of strategy. Curling stones can be set to guard the target, preventing the other team from getting close to the centre. Curling stones can be sent gently down the ice, or hard, to knock the other teams stones out of the target area. Each team gets the ‘hammer’ in turn, which means going last in the end. An advantage as you may get a stone in the best position on the last curl of the end. There are different games using slightly different rules. I was watching the UK against Sweden at the Olympics today. And that’s where the trifle comes in. I had dome of it for lunch. Then noticed the bade of the dish has circles in it a bit like a curling target! Just a nice gentle lunch and bit of telly watching. X

View up Station Road towards Trubshaw Cross.

Sitting in the Waiting room gallery, looking out on a blustery day. The road in front runs down past the gallery on the left of where I was seated then on behind me to the Longport station building where trains regularly stop. That is why the gallery is called :the Waiting room’. The gallery is linked with the station and is a community space that is run by the volunteers who have worked on maintaining the station building. I don’t know the full details but it’s good the station is still in use. Its just a short walk from there to the Trent and Mersey canal and along it to the Middleport pottery. It was a bleak, wet and windy day, but we were warm and snug at the gallery with a cup of coffee and a scone too!

Add a little dragon

I’m trying to collate all my dragon images for my college project. I keep finding them in different files and places. I need too take good photos of my art so that I can produce good quality images for it. I was trying to create a middle ages design. More snake like than the more modern style of dragon you can find. Even though they are mythical they seem to evolve! Now I need to do more research into the history of dragons and their symbolic meanings.

Pulled three ways

Abstract digital finger painting I have called ‘pulled’…

Tension twangs

Pulls me three ways

How can I help?

Who needs me more

Stress hold my hands

Pulls my heart out!

How to split

Yourself between

Three different problems

Three people stuck?

If I’m pulled one way

I’m lulled into

Security,

But then it comes again

Another pang of guilt.

So show me a way to help

Them..

But me too!
