Art fair

My little table was packed with paintings and a few glass necklaces today. I sold a few things, including one of the necklaces.

There wasn’t a lot of footfall and people were looking but not really buying. I guess they don’t have their shopping heads on at a health gym. They want to sit down in the cafe after doing their workouts!

The company was pleasant though. I had a lovely chat with the young woman who had the stall next to me. She was really friendly and we chatted about craft and art fairs and whether to try and get cards made from some of my paintings. She certainly had a lot of work, and was selling greetings cards, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pompoms, and other lovely creations. It helped the time pass to chat with such a friendly person.

My stall was dwarfed by the other people’s. It’s only three or four feet across, and with everything lying flat my stall didn’t have as much ‘oomph’ as some of the others. I might try and get some stands for the paintings. I had some metal ones I’ve used before but they are too heavy and sharp.

Pottery on the canal wip

I’m struggling with this imagined landscape. I want to get the reflections realistic and it’s just a bit too splodgy. The painting itself is about 5×4 inches approximately. I was trying to paint a vaguely historical scene, but that would need smoke belching out of the chimneys and a canal barge. Still I can do more work…

Honestly? Honesty

What quality do you value most in a friend?

I almost said loyalty, but if I do something wrong I hope a friend would let me know. I do think that’s really important. I guess I need to think about it though. One person’s honesty might be someone else’s severe criticism. I would prefer to know what a friend honestly thought without it breaking our friendship.

What that means is that we could mutually agree to disagree if politics or some other belief was coming between us. For instance having mutual respect if you followed different religions. I can’t see why that would end a friendship. Unless of course one of you had inhumane ideas. In which case I don’t think we could be friends in the first place.

By the way I apologise for pontificating in these prompt posts. But they make me think about things, and they are here to be answered….

Why not loyalty? Because that might mean the friend backs you up even if you’ve done something wrong. I’d prefer them to nudge me and say they think I’ve made a mistake. OK I’d prefer constructive criticism in that case (what a polite world I want to live in)! Sometimes though I honestly need a serious criticism. Nobody is perfect after all…..

Allium painting

My friend sent me a photo of some alliums and it reminded me of a firework. The tiny flowers look like stars. This is a bigger painting (4x4inches) and it comes with a little wooden frame which I might paint.

It’s a work in progress. I need to improve the details. It’s getting dark in the house so I will have to turn on the lights to continue. I also want to paint some more unusual images…

One of Those questions….

What jobs have you had?

OK, I will admit to having jobs, a few of them, but I’m not saying what.

Why? We give out a lot of information freely over the Internet. Stuff that only friends and relatives need to know. If you start telling everyone everything then other people can steal your identity.

People here know I’m trying to be an artist, and that I have done various jobs in my life. But to write it all down in a post asking what jobs you have done? That seems a little unsafe. Data protection is important and if I tell things that I don’t want people to know, I think I’m being foolish.

That said feel free to tell me all about yourself. I promise not to steal or use your data!?

Tell me everything that you do

So I can tell you my story too

And I won’t tell

Jobs you do well

I won’t lie, I will be true….

Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there that want your information. Whether it’s your jobs, or bank details, what year you were born, your star sign. Where you went to school. How many jobs you had. We think of sites like this as a friendly forum, and in the main it is. But sometimes it’s better to be circumspect. X

Alliums

Alliums are part of the onion family and are grown for their spiky round flower heads in purples and reds.

This display was at the Dorothy Clive garden a week ago. I think the leaves are from a different plant that was growing below the allium stems. I think if we go back in a few weeks a completely different set of flowers will have opened up. If you are in Staffordshire I would recommend a visit. The garden is down a country road and is on a sloping hill. Lovely on a summers day.

I wish our garden was sunnier but we planted a lot of trees soon after moving in and now the garden resembles a jungle. Still that must be good for our carbon footprint.

Sore throat

What?

I’ve been using the free image option here, but I think you have to be very specific about what you put in the search bar! I typed in “sore throat” and got this blue and yellow parrot! Whether it’s because they are loud are shout or squalk a lot? I don’t know!

Anyway I’m a bit under the weather, I have suddenly developed a sore throat and I’m aching. I hope it won’t last. I’ve been asleep for most of the day. Anyway that’s all I’ve got to say. Croak! My voice is very growly…
