Had to…

I saw a dragon

Hiding in plain sight

Standing by graffiti

Under a street light

But when I looked away

And looked again

I say!

The dragon it was gone

It decided not to stay!

I just wanted a pic

On my phone

But it was too quick!

So sadly all I have

Is its tail- just the tip

And a shower of loose scales

One of many epic fails!

Goodbye dragon

And now you’re gone!

Staring

The dragon stared, it looked out at me, the forest had hidden it until I got close. I didn’t know what to think? Where was it from? How had it got there? Was it real, mythical, mystical or magical.

I stood quietly. Waiting to see what happened. I didn’t have to wait long.

It spoke!

Who are you human? Why are you here? Its questions were the same as mine. Then it said, how can you see me? I am invisible!

Of course I replied that it was not. That I could see it perfectly. Then it said I must be young, or believe in stories. Grown ups rarely see dragons!

That’s how we became friends. A chance meeting. We had many adventures. I might tell them one day.

spices

Hidden in the store cupboard, spicy treasures sometimes lose their flavour if they are left too long..

Forgotten hidden treasures.

Todays #bandofsketchers prompt was spices. I used bits of post-it notes for the labels then used black ink fine liner, grey fine liner and a black calligraphy pen to do the shading. I didnt have my mobile phone camera with me so I scanned the image onto the computer- of course it was a PDF, so I had to mess about saving it as a .jpeg so the image would look OK. Funny how you have to learn different skills without realising it sometimes.

Dissappearing cat

You know when it’s time to go to the vets… When your cat dissappears!

Cue manic search under cupboards (I was sure he’d gone upstairs), then when that was no good we widened the search outside, our wooded garden, the neighbours, the alleyways, calling, shouting, bellowing… Then another look round the house. I even thought I’d take a cat toy on a string to chuck under cupboards and tempt him out? Then crreeeeaakkk, out bedroom door.. He came out? Where does he hide? Cat space! A quantum space that only cats can squeeze into….? Now he’s sitting in the sun on a box… Vets in thirty minutes. Wish him luck!

Nest

It looked like a massive nest or a basket. Clearly woven, held together with branches not twigs. Something horrendous lived there. Something that could think, could weave, could create a threat in the vision of tangled trees.

She tried to dispelling her fears, to get freedom back. But as she looked on, two huge spikes shot up into the air and the massive bulk of a head loomed into the sky. She knew she had lost when the gold green eyes sparkled as they opened. The beast was awake!

Zoom meetings

This is a bit of an orphaned post. I tried to edit a draft post but I’m still not completely up to speed with WordPress blocks so I added a photo and categories and tags but couldn’t work out where to add text… Its taken at least ten minutes to get here… The zoom photo has been filtered to hide the identities of the participants, I’m also not saying what it was about. I just liked the colours and patterns on this screen grab.

Hidden homeless

When I go down to the supermarket I often see people who are homeless. I try and give something and also give people details about a local housing association who help them.

But I have come across a young woman who stays with her friend, but tonight she knocked on our door. She explained that her friend had gone out to work and had locked her out. She would not be able to get back in until 6am?i asked her if she wanted the number of the homeless team but she said no. She has somewhere to go and sit and it’s not too cold.

But I wasn’t happy to just let her go. We gave her some change and a bit of fruit. I also gave her a thick warm scarf. Not much helpi know. What else could I do? I was trying to keep a social distance but help too.

My thought after she left, was why she was locked out? She said something about sleeping on the floor, so she might just be ‘sofa surfing’.

This brings up the issue of hidden homelessness. Women especially seem effected by this. They need to keep hidden to avoid being attacked or harmed. Why is this happening in a world that is so mad. If she comes back I will try and help more.
