Rabbit or Hare?

Sketchfu was another site I drew at. More sophisticated than Youdraw. It closed when the owners decided to send more time on another website. Lots of artists drew there. I made many friends and we did various challenges like copying photos of objects, but I also liked the freedom. You could also add to other people’s drawings. So it was almost like a joint animation. Like everything else in the world, things change, they never stay the same.

Today’s challenge ‘Soft’

The second challenge set by our new sketching group ‘band of sketchers’ was ‘Soft’, not easy, until I saw my cat sitting in front of a big soft bag. Plus a mat she was sitting on. Its a pencil sketch with some black ink fine line pen work. It’s hard drawing moving cats. They have a tenancy to shift position just when you want to draw their eyes, or the position of their paws. I could have taken a photo but I wanted to draw direct from life.

Mini gingerbread man

Yes, it’s a mini gingerbread man. A treat with a cup of tea. Nice and spicy with a good snap. Dunked in to his knees first, then waist, and body, finally his head. Sorry gingerbread man, but you were very tasty. I might find room for another!

I know that far more elaborate ginger biscuits used to be made, for some reason I remember them being mediaeval? Maybe made in the Netherlands? Someone please let me know. I do know they are made in Market Drayton, in Shropshire. I can’t tell you more….

Rain arch?

Have you seen it?

Look up on the sky. Can you see it? The rain arch. I don’t understand it. That’s not normal? Who knows what it means?

Is it a stunt, is it possible? How can you believe that is real?

These were the questions being asked by people who saw it. The picture went viral. Then stories of other arches appeared in the news. There was more rain and more arches. No one had an explanation. But strange things continued to happen. The rain arches started appearing at night. There was only the arches. A new phenomena.

Pinned down…. By my cat!

Excuse me?!

Oh come on cat! I can’t move because you are lying om my leg. Weighing it down, stretched out on my lap. I don’t want to disturb you, warm and sleepy. But I need my leg back! It’s falling asleep. I’ve got pain on my ankles, in my hip, in my lower back… There are plenty of other places you could sit or lie. But I want to move. Then you sigh, and relax, and I am lost. I am just your mattress, your bed. I am your slave.

Band of sketchers challenge

Yes I know its not a building, it’s INSIDE the building. I’m our living room. It’s still bricks and mortar. Anyway it’s the corner with the DVDs and Videos, an old hi-fi system and a lot of books and stuff. Amazing how media and technology changes so much. But not everyone is able to afford replacements. So it’s a case of watching things till they wear out. Anyway that’s the corner of the building I drew. Black ink on cartridge paper.

Huchera Square

I played with this photo as the Huchera leaves look like copper sheets. The little sprigs of green in the centre look like tiny green people. I would really like a macro lens so I could take some very close shots of animals including insects, and also plants, together with things like lichen. Whatever I do, I find I want to do more. I deliberately take off centre pictures to make interesting compositions. I like trying to make patterns out of trees and clouds too…..

New challenges

A ggrou of us have decided to keep running sketching challenges but not in our local urban sketching group. This is because not everyone sticks to the urban sketchers rules and we were also clogging up the gallery with some strange and interesting images, but not necessarily outside.

Today’s challenge was distance. I saw some people have drawn landscapes with far away landmarks, but I interpreted it differently….. I in my case I drew my friends back yard. With plants growing up the wall and in pots at the rear of her house. First of a new set of ideas….
