There was a young whale from Gibraltar Who married a young dolphins daughter They went to a church But started to lurch And squashed the vicar on the altar!
Very random and silly I know, it’s sometimes hard to find a rhyme.
Thinking about dragons and how they look? For a mythical beast there are lots of ‘species’. Ancient Chinese and Japanese, medieval dragons battled by saints, dragons in stories by authors like Anne McCaffrey, films like ‘ how to train your dragon’, with a dragon with a catlike head (toothless).
Then, logically, the wings wouldn’t really get it off the ground. But a mythical beast would be magical and easily able to fly. How about having wings like a dragonfly? Gossamer and transparent? And does the dragon have a scaled body or could it have fur?
Why can’t a dragon be a bit like a cat? Add some wings and a longer tail for balance. I’m going to write a story for college and the main character is some style of dragon. I want it to be friendly and beautiful. I think I would add scales. Maybe this will be the final idea. I will have to think about it.
I just completed a fellow bloggers challenge to write a limerick. The word we had to use was Lie. The trick is that you can use the word anywhere in the limerick, you don’t need to use it as a word at the end of a line.
Limericks are five line rhymes, made famous I think by Edward Lear the poet. The format is two longer lines that rhyme at the end… Mine were Joe and Toe today, then two shorter lines. I ended mine with blame and lame. Then a final, fifth line that rhymes with the ends of the first two lines, where I used the word Know.
Sometimes limericks don’t rhyme because the last words look similar but don’t sound similar, you have to know the pronunciation.
Today’s #bandofsketchers prompt was Universe. So I did this doodle. Crystal shapes that represent ancient ideas of the crystal spheres, moons in different phases. A solar system, a sun, a tardis, a wormhole a saturn type planet… Also galaxies colliding and other space stuff.
Black fine liner pen and black felt pens. I had fun doing this.
A few years ago I drew this portrait of Hugh Laurie, (who played House in the medical drama of that name). This was a digital drawing done with a stylus on a tablet but with very simple tools on a site called Sketchfu. It consequently closed and people lost their drawings. Luckily I downloaded some of mine.
This particular drawing always gives me pleasure. It took me a while to master the tools and when I try and draw like this now it doesn’t flow as easily. It’s true what they say – practice makes perfect!
Another pattern that I can see creatures in. This time bats I think. Drawn with spirals, squares and triangles, tried to make them a little, 3d. I thought leaving some white space around the shapes gave it a bit more of an interesting look.
This morning I saw a woodpecker in our garden. I’d never seen one in real life and I’m not sure what type it was but it was climbing up our willow tree, pecking at the bark. Looking for insects? I hope it comes back tomorrow. If it does I will try and get a photo then try and identify it. We do have lots of trees in the garden even though we are in the centre of a city. I guess we are trying to do our bit for the environment.
Three years ago I was drawing pictures for Inktober. I did do drawings for the whole month. I must have visited my sister and drawn my impression of driving in the dark. That’s something I hate, people driving behind you with their headlights full on. (the two white dots on the drivers mirror) this was from my memory.
Since I’ve been doing an illustration course I have amassed a large collection of drawings and sketches. So many memories. Even during lockdown, I have recorded images. I’m not sure where to store them all!
Another abstract drawing today. I drew contours around the back of a sketchbook page where ink had bled through and left lots of dots. When I’d finally drawn round them all it looked like the swirls in a cabbage that has been cut in half. But it was a bit flat so I added dark areas where the lines were close together. Then I worked outwards from each dark area adding colours in a rainbow effect. I’ve only posted a thumbnail image as I’m up to over 97% used storage on WordPress.
