Trees

The roots of trees penetrate the ground, anchoring the tree in place. Sometimes in windy conditions a tree can be shaped. Especially if there is a prevailing wind, like at the coast, where the wind blows mostly in one direction. Then the tree is sculpted and sometimes stunted, growing horizontal, pushed inwards towards the land. Like someone’s long hair blown back by the wind. Wild looking. The same can happen on high moors and mountains. Shaped and transformed.

Lizard

Hitting the wrong buttons again… So for some reason I’ve got this list of categories above. I have no idea how to delete it!

I was going to talk about my digital drawing of a lizard. I’d originally just drawn the background but decided to add this because I liked the idea of camouflage. It was drawn at a now defunct website called sketchfu which closed a long time ago. It had simple tools, but I could draw what I wanted to. Freedom in art is wonderful!

Urban sketchers Stoke-on-Trent challenge today

_20200812_005647

Drawn on my tablet in a sketching app.

I didn’t write much because I continued to watch and video the storm. The little films are on my Facebook page, I might try adding them to my Instagram page too.

I’ve never experienced lightening like that. Like a pot on the boil, every couple of seconds there was a flash or actual forked lightening across the sky. Just checked Facebook. Someone’s power went out and their hair stood on end. More worryingly a chimney pot blew off. We then had torrential rain for a while. It’s quieter now but my friends in America said that it looked like the kind of storm they get in Arizona? Still a few bright flashes. Still hellishly hot and humid. Glad I unplugged my computer….

Before Covid (BC)

IMG_20191105_002200_191

I try to remember before Covid. Walking free, no need to be nervous. Of course we could still catch flu, or get pneumonia, or be so ill you could die. But this is worse.

So I’ve decided to post pictures from before March, this is a digital drawing I did on the sketcher free app… I might draw some more images like this. I think I remember how I did it.

In other words, I don’t want to bore people. I will try and come up with more interesting content.

I love the LOTR

_20200610_153604

A drawing of Aragorn I did about ten years ago at a website called sketchfu. I loved drawing there. I miss it. But it closed. I really want to find a simple drawing application that I can do this kind of thing in again. Any suggestions? Everything these days seems to be on Google play. But that’s not how I want to draw. Yes I’m moaning about this again. I did a couple of months ago I think. I just want something where I can get the freedom to do what I want to do. Even if it is just drawing portraits of my favourite stars!

Moan over.

Cat washing

Cats are hard to draw when they are washing, they move from one position to another and when you are trying to capture them on a drawing tablet its harder because of changing tools mid drawing. My hubby just chimed in that its harder to draw flying bats! True, I just haven’t seen any recently.

Anyway I will try and do something different next time. I’m just a bit stuck in a rut today, so please excuse my lack of posting today.

Artrage oils drawing

Untitled85_001

Just did a drawing in artrage oils. It’s a drawing ap where you have a few brushes and a pallette that makes apparently oily colours. You can turn up a metallic look between 0 and 100.

This was done with a thin, dry brush tool. The marks are short so you are forced to draw lots of marks to cover an area. I could have changed it but this gave some uniformity in the mark making. Then I tried to add dots like halftone but because I was drawing with my finger it’s not very accurate. I changed the metallic effect up in some places. It sort of works.

Four faces

sketch-1553378526940

Four faces on a black and white pattern I made on the phone. Each face was drawn by my finger on the screen. I definitely think I have a style that I draw in. Not anything recognisable like anime. Just my way of doing things. They say though, that there’s nothing new under the sun. So I wonder if there are any artists that do this kind of thing. Maybe it’s a bit too unfinished but you don’t learn unless you try different things.

Patterns

_20200710_214734

Patterned background, created digitally, with a figure of a seated woman added. I like playing with pattern, seeing what I can find hidden in the depths..

I added dark lines then shading and lightened areas to give the figure a bit of definition. I guess it’s a little more abstract than I normally draw. I changed the hue in it a couple of times to. Making it more green and then more red. I enjoy experimenting with art.
