Playing again, filters, digital finger painting. I really like complicated patterns, but adding a filter of broken glass and a burst of light made it different. But I still see shapes that turn into things, in this case the blue squiggles remind me of someone playing a guitar? Or running? My mind is strange.

Artrage oils sketch. Using orange, yellow, green and purple to make it pop. Because the colours smudge when you overlap them, it’s hard not to mix them up. Eventually I ended up with this abstract pattern.
Finally I mirrored the image in layout app to create a symmetrical pattern. The colour pallette has a slider for metallic and non metallic versions.
I see lots of shapes in it that could be faces or a cat or other animals or even bodies? Pareidolia again (seeing faces in things)

My attempt at painting a Japanese style vase. Using gold and lots of flower and leaf patterns I tried to recreate the feeling of a Cloisonné or Satsuma vase. I’m no expert but I just wanted it to have complexity and stature. My love of pattern really helped. This was taken when I had almost completed the work. I placed it on the floor to try and catch the sunlight illuminating it. One of my favourite paintings, it went to a very good home.

I’m looking at some photos of my old paintings, I realise I’ve got a lot of inspirations, including astronomy. This was a painting I did of a Nebula. I tried to be as accurate as I could. Clearly it’s impossible to be exact, and positioning of the stars is approximately done. I don’t remember which Nebula photo I looked at. It was probably in the Sky at Night magazine which I sometimes use for inspiration. I’m no expert, I think I’m more interested in the visual representation rather than the celestial mechanics and chemistry of the different gases.

I’d better sweep up
The winds got up
And blown the leaves
All into weaves
The hedge is bare
And trees now dare
To share naked twigs
As branches do jigs
Dancing in the autumn air
Bright colours that dare
Descend to meet
Your slipping feet!

A random collection of glass paperweights that I have bought over several years. I have several more. If I had the money I would have more of them. I love making fused glass pieces but I would not know how to make these. They might be blown into round shapes with metal foil trapped inside them. They are beautiful. They are only around three or four inches, but so intricate.

Thursdays #bandofsketchers prompt was leaves. I took some photos at Westport Lake and I based this sketch on one of them. Some of the colours are a bit to bright but it was the best I could do with felt pens.
