Beautiful pink fingers
Reach for the sky
Magnificent Magnolia
Giving me joy
Seen on a warm day
In early May
Life changes quickly
Soon they will die
Then the leaves come
Shade the ground
Summer has arrived then.
Wait for spring
To come again.

It looks like blossom, but it’s actually a puddle with trees reflecting in it then wind born bits of twig and flower petals floating on top. I thought it looked interesting and unless you look closely it’s really hard to tell what’s going on. Anyway this is from Rode Hall again. I also took lots of pictures of benches dotted around the grounds. I might post a few photos here. There is a Bench Appreciation group on Facebook that I shared them to. I wonder if there is an abstract nature page for this sort of photo?

A few photos from our garden today. It’s suddenly filled with life and colour. Big bumble bees fly around the cherry and pear blossoms. Hopefully we will get a good crop again. Old red geraniums have colonised the garden. We bought three plants from the Dorothy Clive garden a few years ago. White wild garlic flowers are opening and spreading under the trees, and Spanish bluebells from my grandma’s garden are loving the early spring shade. Birds sing, blackbirds are starting to nest and the Robin flits around looking for food. I’m happy to be out in the dappled shade next to a busy road. The shelter of the trees calms me.

End of April,
the moss is greening nicely
Moist air, no sun
Cool showers..
Vitamin D
What’s that?
Buds burst
and leaves open fully
Spring sprang last week
Next flowers
Soon, fruit.

The Magnolias are getting to the end of their flowering periods. The petals are starting to go brown in patches. I have a white Magnolia Stellata, this is a deep pink one we saw on a walk, I’d like to get one of these in our garden. I think they originate in China? They are such majestic flowers.

I sat and drew one of the magnolias while we were there at Bishton Hall. It was just a black and white sketch so I coloured it in when I got home. The curved edges are because I can’t get my sketchbook page to lie flat. I don’t think I’ve got the colours right, but I have only got a limited range of colours in the set of felt pens I’m using.

Two large Magnolia trees spreading out over a lawn at Bishton Hall near Rugeley. Staffordshire. The chairs give a sense of how wide the canopy of them is. To the right was some sort of glass house or green house where our friends in the Boat band played various pieces of creole and other music. A very enjoyable afternoon.

The snow has gone for now
Warm winds blow from the south
Clear frosty mornings
Left behind
Rain and showers
Water the blossom and flowers
Cold chill twigs
Now wet with buds.
Birds collect bugs
and think of lining their nests
With moss and fluffy stuff
Warm and snuggled
For eggs and chicks
Farewell Winter.
See you later in the year
As the seasons turn.

I might sleep till spring
Curled up and snug
Warm in my bed
Like a tidy ladybug
The sheets white like snow
Blue shadowed and dug
Deep into the duvet.
Then come springs light
Warm sun so bright
I’ll yawn and awake
Like blossom burst forth,
But till then I’ll wait
And keep warm.

Doodled flowers,
Set my fingers alight
Twisting, turning
Blossom flying
Memory of spring
Buds and blooms
Stained glass?
