Jumping cat

Bad photo of my old cat jumping before we moved house. It’s blurry with my camera shaking Parkinsons hands.

I used to walk around with her purring, draped round my shoulders. She would follow me everywhere. Once when I walked into a friend’s bungalow via the back door she sat by the door for ages, I’d come out of the front door and my friend had found her waiting for me!

She would jump across from one gatepost to the other when I tapped the wall. I got several photos of her doing this and used them as the reference for the painting. I actually won a small prize in a local exhibition for this painting.

Missing my cat (back now and OK)

He needs his meds

He has a heart problem and is on medication twice a day. He’s probably just asleep somewhere in the shade but it is 29°C here and I’m worried. I will go out in the garden and call him, but I need to be careful as I’m unsteady on my feet. Why does this have to happen now. He’s due back at the vets tomorrow for a checkup. My other boy cat has probably moved out. He only comes home every few days and turns his nose up at his food. My female cat is also out… Maybe they are off playing together!

Pottery closure

There was a pottery in Burslem where they let you paint your own designs.

Unfortunately like many other ceramic factories it has closed. The cost of gas and electricity means that a once thriving local industry is dwindling. Stafford pottery was one of the latest victims.

There are still excellent potteries that create designs and pieces of art for the 21st Century. Portmeirion, Emma Bridgewater, Wedgwood are a few that continues to produce beautiful work. It’s hard to say whether they will still be producing ceramics in a few years time. We also have a company called Lucideon which undertakes research and development of ceramics for such things as electrical insulators, non slip tiles and other diverse uses.

Hopefully this city of potters will continue to survive well into the future.

What to paint….

A little exhibition is coming up in September and I am not sure what, if anything, I can paint. My vision is quite odd now, a bit doubled, a bit blurred.

I’m thinking of possibly painting cats. Just some simple and gentle and nice! With a bit of character. Not a generic cat… Not a pretty cat, a growl tiger, curmugeonly, interesting cat… I don’t know, golden eyes? But first I need to fish some paints out!

Bad day

My day has been spent shut inside the house. Not wanting to go out, shaky and achy. My feet are cramping, my hands tremble and twist tightly. I started doomscrolling which was a mistake. I also wanted to keep out of the heat and humidity.

This is the reality of a bad day of Parkinsons. Quiet, just mooching, worrying, thinking about the future. Things I can’t do. Fears of what I need to be careful about.

I need to put washing on the line, I really need shopping. But I had trouble washing my hair. I’m not supposed to get water in my eye because of the surgery, but leaning backwards in the shower feels very unsteady.

Reading about other people’s problems makes me realise how much people have to put up with. Life isn’t always easy.

BUT my Cat just jumped on my lap. She’s happy and purring… Not so bad then..

Texture

Cat textures in photodirector

There is an app I really enjoyed using, but I’ve found out the version I use is being updated and the textures part of it is closing. That means I won’t be able to do this anymore.

I’m really sad because it’s given me a few ideas for creating more abstract paintings. I’m hoping that it will be changed to a similar type of tool but I don’t know. It’s like changing oil paints to acrylic without any explanation. So I’m just waiting to see in some trepidation.

My cats are not photogenic!

Mum why are you waving that slab of plastic in my face? I can’t see you because it’s in the way? Your eyes are always on it. Hunched over it. At least when you used a keyboard I could walk over that and sit on it and make lo[[[tttttttttttttttttttssssss of letters with it!

Mum do stop with your hands on the front of it! I want you to look at me, stroke my nose, rub my head, tickle my ears.

Oh you are not interested? Then I’ll look the other way…
