Esther Chiltons Blog prompt “surprise”

Surprise!
One night I dreamt that I would meet some friends on a road nearby, but since they lived 40 miles away and only cycled that seemed unlikely. I also remembered the dream was on a wet day. Things seemed very clear. But as usual I couldn’t remember the details when I woke up. Then a few days later we decided to ride out and meet some other friends on their farm. It was an overcast day as we started out on our 5 mile ride to visit them. But SURPRISE! In the distance we saw our friends cycling towards us. They must have had the same idea. But they were with some others. It started to rain and as the friends drew closer I realised they were with the people I’d dreamt of! Then we all took shelter under cover of a bus stop. Thunder rumbled and lightening flashing! I realised it was my dream!

2 cats

Medium cat (left) and large cat (right) like to sleep on this chair. Usually there is a single occupant, but tonight they are sharing. The little cat is on the floor just exploring to find somewhere to settle down.

I’m glad they tolerate and cope with each other, the small cat is nervous and sometimes has a paw raised to her, but there’s very rarely a squabble and usually they chase together to pay. I think I will go  and settle down too. I’m struggling to keep my eyes open, the cats have the right idea. X

Seahorse

For years I drew seahorses on the sand

A holiday tradition.

He would watch while I drew

Happy in admiration

Sunny, bright days,

Soft sand

Holding hands.

I started doing this

Seahorses gallop into the waves

Dragging my memories

In the undertow

Last week I walked towards a beach

Did not step onto it

Did not pick up a stick and draw

Did not depict this watery creature

I don’t know if I ever will

Again….

Sand particles washed and blown

Away…

Has my tide turned?

I don’t know…

Under trees

The trees are full of leaves, bulky and heavy laden. They clean the air, drawing in carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. I hate to think of when these trees will be gone. They may become aged and diseased. I think of them 50 years ago, how big were they then? Saplings or bigger? How old are they. What is their life expectancy? I hope they see the next century safely. Their dark green canopies giving continued shelter even as the climate heats up.

Face in a landscape

Painting from a few years ago. I sometimes come up with ideas I like, but I don’t keep doing the same things over and over again. I’m not sure if I could keep repeating an image with just little changes. Once you start doing that you might as well be creating Christmas or birthday cards.

I like being experimental. I might not always get it right but if I continue I learn with each effort. This acrylic on canvas is quite surreal, but why not?

I’ve never had one

What does your ideal home look like?

Ramshacal

I don’t live in an expensive, ideal house. This is next door. Mine is in better repair, but it’s an old house built in the 1900s. It’s been changed so that it has a bathroom/kitchen extention. It took years to buy because we previously rented.

Someone suggested to me recently that I should downsize. To that ideal home the prompt asks about? But why should I? Unless my health deteriorates further. I know where I am. I have a large garden at the side of the house. It’s full of nature, an old pond, trees, squirrels, hedgehogs. Why do I want someone to buy the house and rip it apart. If I ever find the money I would repair and restore it. I guess that’s my ideal home. Maybe with a stair lift and storage for my art?

Don’t ask!

How are you feeling right now?

I just want to be well

Not feeling low

Tired and fed up

Don’t do this?

Be careful not to…

Avoid salt

Don’t eat cheese

Remember to wrap up warm

Think calm thoughts

Measure your blood pressure

Check your eyes

Don’t eat too much…..

And pray to stay alive each night!

I’m back!

My Internet is temporarily fixed. I had a very helpful engineer round today. Turns out my cable outside my house might be damaged due to strong winds. So now I have a router that picks up WiFi and is integrated into my router attached to my landline

I’m not exactly sure how it works, but I’ve got another engineer books for next week to see if the cable needs fixing, then I should have my landline working.

I don’t know why I understand what the engineer was explaining? Maybe Osmosis after years of listening to people?
