Celebrate cactii
They just don’t die
Easily anyway
Not too thirsty
Find the balance
Wet or dry?
Keep them happy
They’ll thrive
New paintings and regular art updates.

Easily anyway
Not too thirsty
Find the balance
Wet or dry?
Keep them happy
They’ll thrive

Of me painting.
Stitching an image together
Section by section
Gradually integrating
Joining blocks together
Like a jigsaw puzzle.
Pieces don’t always fit
They have to be adjusted.
The progress of a rake
Is in jeopardy!

What a hot day to get up early and go to a poetry writing workshop. Hosted at BArts in Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent.
Our writer had come up from Birmingham for the day. She beat boxed the sound of a thudding heart as she talked about nerves and performance anxiety. Then we did a series of tasks. First of all we split into groups of two and interviewed each other about our personality and likes and dislikes. I came up with things about whistling my cats or that I would fight off zombies with an umbrella!
Then we made up a poem with the phrase he/she/they are then the words we had answered with… It was interesting.
She is sponge
She is fighting with a brolly
She is fish and chips…..
It was strange but funny a bit bizarre.
We did more but I’m too tired and hot to remember!

Our writing group is sending poems and stories to a new quarterly publication in the local area. I have sent in a poem about roses and a short story in. I’m not sure if either will be published so I’m not going to give much detail here.
The roses poem is about if you had synesthesia and could for example hear what a rose is like. The short story is about a lunar eclipse. Is that enough detail? Wish me luck!
Every Monday Esther Chilton posts a limerick prompt to use her chosen word of the week. This time it was FELL.
I had a bit of fairytale fun with this. I wrote:
He took his axe into the dell
The great oak tree he would fell..
But faerie folk came
Now he sits in shame
In an underground magical cell!

Afternoon tea
Relaxing after the play
Could hardly move
Sister drove us to it
Garden centre
Beautiful summer flowers.
Yes I was tired
But I was tempted
So after tea?
Bought more flowers.
What are you most worried about for the future?

I’m on the roundabout of life
Four horses gallop
Over the horizon
Middle aged men ride them
Chase my mind sideways
Illness is first
Hunger comes close second
But War will encompass all
Until one by one
A dark shadow stills them.
Money piles up around them
If we could part them from it?
We may have a better life.

A galaxy in your eyes
Or underwater gaze
Blue and sublime
Comforting and caring
The volume of peace
Encompasses the world
Finds tiny thoughts
Trapped in your mind
A nonsense poem
But liberating
How can I answer?

Ripe raspberries taste refreshing
Zingy and zangy
Sweet and summery
Cool and classic
Fresh flavour
Doubly delicious!
Can’t wait for the next lot when these flowers open and are fertilised by the bees. X

I want more colour
I want more scent
Flowing green
Petals and sepals
Music in sight
The volume
Set to 11
A rhapsody
Of delight.
