Green
Floating
Upwards
Amid grey billows.
Like green dragons
Frogs
Or flattened chickens.
Strange creatures
Caught in a net of cloud…
New paintings and regular art updates.

Green
Floating
Upwards
Amid grey billows.
Like green dragons
Frogs
Or flattened chickens.
Strange creatures
Caught in a net of cloud…

Like fish scales
My sequins glint
In the afternoon sun.
Shiny and smooth
Bright and glittering
Ripe for a party frock
Or a Christmas jumper!

I did this drawing in an app called sketcher that I used to use a lot on my tablet, but when I got a new phone I found I was creating a lot of things on it and neglecting some of the apps on other devices. Having too many choices or just lucky to have them? But I do need to try and keep my hand in with other apps.

If you start with a photo of an object and multiply it you can get some interesting effects and patterns. I started with a photo of our halogen heater, changed it to black and white in a filter and then duplicated it over and over again with my photo booth layout app. I have put them next to each other so you can see the original black and white photo and the duplicated ones. I think the second photo reminds me of a wool blanket I had on my bed as a child.

Playing with filters again. I started out with a photo of the back of my writing pad that is covered in dots. I duplicated it in layout app, then changed it in Instagram and Photodirector. The effect is like reverb in music, like a feedback loop I think, where patterns that are hidden are revealed by the filters.

A doodled mandala and adjustments in photodirector to add lens flare and playing with the drawn lines (gold and silver pens on black cartridge paper).
I wanted to cover the paper in patterns, it started out as a reasonably balanced pattern at the centre, but I soon went off on a tangent!

Duplicated photo with ‘faces’….
Doing the mirroring in layout again to create something slightly different. I also see leaning Teddy bears! And an upset frog or fish? What do you see?

When I’m drawing, whether it’s in analogue, or as here digitally, I love to play and mess about. Why stick with one idea? After I’d drawn this I decided to put it through a another a called sketch and I added the cracks. Finally I duplicated it in Layout and changed the filter when I posted it to my Instagram account.

We know how something natural looks. It is often untidy, not always symmetrical, analogue not digital. But when you play with photos you can create structures that don’t exist in reality, you can expand distances and change perspectives. That’s what I did with the photo I used to create this. A kind of tree tray or chandelier. I don’t know, but abstracting as much fun as I can…

I do like odd images that happen as a happy accident. This is our lamp shade reflected in the side window. I think it’s a bit like a floating jellyfish or an emoji? The two dark patches are the eyes and the bright patch the nose. Rather than dismissing it as an error I started playing around with it….

Now it looks like strange eyes and a nose… Sometimes it’s a fun idea to explore and use your mistakes.
